Cool Eagle Mk1

The Eagle Mk1 was a Formula One racing car, designed by Len Terry for Dan Gurney's Anglo American Racers team. The Eagle, introduced for the start of the 1966 Formula One season, is often regarded as being one of the most beautiful Grand Prix cars ever raced.

The car was designed around a 3.0L Gurney-Weslake V12 which was introduced after its first four races (initially they had it running with a 2.7 4 cyl Coventry Climax lump.

Dan Gurney, himself, drove the Eagle-Weslake to victory at the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix, making him only the second driver at the time, and one of only three to date, to win a Formula One Grand Prix in a car of their own construction. Go on, name the others.

That win still stands as the only Formula One victory for a USA-built car.

All that aside, isn't she lovely?

Nose is a bit of a Fezza rip off but it's a handsome thing. I think the idea of taking F1 on with your own car is cool.

Jack Brabbham & Bruce McLaren?

What exactly is cool about a racing relic that no one will see or drive? Steve you've lost the plot

Gaz, any car you've ever thought was or is cool will be a relic of some kind one day.

So.....

it's beautiful
it has an interesting history
it was (briefly) competitive on a world class level
it was driven to victory by skilful and quick racing driver who went on found his own racing team and build his own car, after starting as a test and F1 driver for Ferrari.
His dad was an opera singer.
He grew up building DIY hot rods.

It looks awesome, the colour and chrome is a work of art.

What more do you need? :nutter:

It needs to he useable. As its about as much use as a snooze button on a smoke alarm, the poll is utterly pointless and you leave me no choice but to declare it seriously uncool

No it doesn't need to be usable. Why?

I'm surprised Gaz equates coolness with usability. Totally irrelevant to each other while not being mutually exclusive.

It's cool for what it is rather than not for what it isn't.

Lord save us from another usable, easy to see, mass produced Kia crossover.

I voted the Saturn V crawler cool, and that ain't usable

On the other hand I do kind of agree with Gaz that whilst it may be accomplished/special/unique and sound great, it's bugger all use and it is some obscure old racing thing. I'm really not a fan of old racing cars. Rally cars I could get excited about, and BTCC type stuff, as they at least look like something you might recognise. But not these.

Uncool

I wonder what Ben thinks?

CRV/Jaaag

The Honda CRV is very usable. We used ours this afternoon to go and buy Mrs K some new wellingtons. That's just how we roll. We couldn't have done it in a Gurney-Weslake Eagle. This leads me to the conclusion that the CRV is cool and the Eagle isn't.

I used our toaster earlier too. To make some toast. I couldn't use a Gurney-Weslake Eagle to make toast.....

If usability is going to be a criteria, I could go on like this all night.

On the scale of usable/cool, where does a TVR with the chopped up bodies of Oasis in the boot score?

Office Chair.

Gaz is right.
It's a relic Formula One car. That's fab in a museum or some archaic racing series but not on the road. It's not remotely practical for road use if even legal?

You are going to look a **** to 90% of the populous if you drive down the road in that, not many will think you look cool, in fact more tool.

You really can't be serious!

It's totally utterly uncool in anything but that museum and the old ****s racing series

You are being ironic, surely?

To be cool, by your standards, the criteria are as follows:

1) got to be practical - the more practical the better, and therefore cooler.

2) got to be legal - if it's even borderline, then all coolness dissipates instantly.

3) the perception and opinion of the average man on the street is your guiding light - the chav outside maccy d's, the old lady from no 27, the man 2 doors down with a Kia - their perspective on any given car (but why stop at cars? what about bands, clothes and headware?) are the datum edge from which coolness is measured, gauged and determined.

I honestly don't think some of you know what you're saying.
