Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 e39a

Hugely anonymous, subtly handsome, massively tuneable. Capable.

Reminiscent of the Audi 80 of the time?

Another difficult one. Well done Elvis.

It's quite an interesting car especially for those with 80's car history. Rallying pedigree pre Evo. Quite restrained, almost bland looks. If you weren't into cars or under 30 there's a good chance you'd have no idea what it is.

It isn't that stylish however, even in a retro way. It might be cool in a retro way in a few years but it isn't there yet IMHO.

Uncool.

+ a rare blast from the past
- blisteringly bland

I reckon you could give it a really subtle makeover, maybe black.....turn the dial to 350bhp, awd, aws - what's not to like?

I remember Penti winning the RAC in one. Technically very interesting but, like pretty much every Japanese performance car, uncool.

I always quite liked the Galant... prefered it to the Lancer

I think they were looking to lancia for inspiration on styling, same as Seat looking to Alfa with the leon for its design.

A mate had two gen 5 galants, turbo diseasel ones. At the time they were great, helped by the fact that he drove like even more of a lunatic than I did. Looking at them now they are hideous. The gen 6 is even worse.

It took them until the 8th iteration to arrive at a good looking car. Even then they equipped most of them with teeny little wheels.

Agree with Bruce. Looks like a lancia grille. Thought that years ago too.

I would happily vote for Gen8 one... Late examples are really cool in an Estate variant
