The Eos is has been in service since 2006. It's tidy, efficient, smart. Is it cool?

There are a couple of these down our road and I've never seen the incredibly complex roof down on either of them. The A3 convertible and the Golf both avoid the tin-top complexity which VW delayed by enough time some suppliers almost went out of business waiting !

I was told, when it first came out, that the indicators on the
wing mirrors made it a very cool car.

I liked them when they first came out, my dad almost got one... a fully loaded one was considerably more than its rivals

ive been going off them since.

It's apparently very heavy. The roof system suffers from leaks. I do however like that they built an electric glass sunroof into the tin top.

Our is the pre-facelift which I prefer. I do suspect it's a bit girly but then I did get it for the missus. I am looking forward to some nice weather, top down, stick the box in auto and cruise around the coast with the family. Also, as James May would say, it goes like a stabbed rat when you put your foot down. That roof does rattle though and that's my first job as soon as the rain stops.

I'll leave it to others as to whether it's cool or not. I can say that it gets far more appreciative attention than my GT.

I hired one about 3 or 4 years ago to a Ferrari meet . There's a bit of a reason but not now, not that interesting, however the car. It was a 2.0TDi EOS hire car in black, obviously new at the time.
I can only say I loved it, quick, quiet, the roof worked flawlessly (it was new) and I loved the fact when parked in line on the road side and because I was tightish up against the car behind, it bleeped like a bleeping thing when I tried to close the roof. I guess the boot extends a bit to release the roof?
I liked the 2.0TDi motor and as such when I bought my GT (my first diesel) I was disappointed how slow it first appeared to be compared with the EOS. I since learned how to drive the GT to it's full potential and was not disappointed

Which leads me to the point you made about it getting more attention than your GT. That must be girls because blokes will always take the far, far more aggressive looking GT over the soft looking EOS.

It's uncool BTW, with a metal folding roof, VW and modern it has no chance of being cool, doubt it will ever be cool. Applies to all folding tin-tops.

I'm not going anywhere, I'm just going.
Statements above are all my own opinion and not fact.

I would have been happy with the diesel yet that GTI engine is lovely to have. The roof mechanism does work in tandem with the parking sensors because the boot does project back quite a distance when open for the roof.

When I took it for new tyres every single one of the men on the floor were gathered round admiring it when I came back from paying, and these guys see all sorts of cars every day. With the roof up it has rakish coupé stance.

My feeling is that it's interestingly rare and I don't care, so there! Anyway, the fricken' roof goes down!

I actually read that as the 'kitchen roof goes down'. I thought I don't recall the one we hired having a kitchen..

I like it, but it's not cool. I don't much like air cooled VW Beetles and Sambas but they're the coolest cars/vans on the planet

Erm. With all due respect to P O'P, it's not my sort of thing at all, I think the styling is a bit off on most folding 4 seat tin tops and this is no exception.

Malc, how did you fare in the keys in the fruit bowl part of the Ferrari meet?

Oh! That's a shame - I was really hoping you'd swap it for your CRV.

Uncool. How could it be anything but? It's a bland Golf with the roof cut off. It's not enough to make it cool.

No offence to Paddy.

+ it's a safe choice if you want a hatch based convertible.
- it's just too safe looking for what should be a style based segment.

The Scirrocco only exists to use the plant capacity freed up in Portugal when Ford started to make their own Galaxy instead of collaboration with VW.

Also, do Canon SLR owners get confused if they also own a VW Eos ?

Yes it has, I had my EOS out yesterday at a local stately home, took some lovely pictures.

But, to the other EOS to which I believe you are eluding to......one passed me the other day with the roof down, it did look nice in the sun.
