Mercedes CLS

According to a Mercedes-Benz press release, the CLS-class was produced to combine the "strong, emotive charisma" of a coupe with the "comfort and practicality" of a sedan.

Swooping roof line of a coupe but with 4 doors, because of the coupe esque styling it does lose some practicality, being that it is a 2+2 of sorts.

Only fitted with larger CC powerful engines, nothing less than a 3.0 ever graced its engine bay, all the way up to the 6.2 AMG spec.

The AMG spec gives it a much more aggressive stance and plenty of power.

Also available as a shooting brake style estate, a sort of coupe styled estate - whatever that is.

This was rumoured for years as the Jaguar from Mercedes. A couple of generations later and Jaguar is not doing feline jags any more. Basically a Mercedes that won't get you invaded by people thinking its a cab when you stop at the traffic lights. Too Breitling for my taste.

I much prefer the shooting brake to the saloon... probably the only estate I like

I like the previous one. That one, in common with most modern Mercs, is a big mess of swage lines, swishes and flourishes that don't gel at all.

My boss has AMG in silver, what an engine and the silver is almost discreet in looks but not noise

As I have remarked elsewhere in these pages, I don't believe Mercedes Benz have made a decent looking car since the 70s, with the possible exception of the original SLK.

This one is particularly horrible.

Just about squeaks cool by elevating itself above the rep mobile or taxi looks of its siblings. A bit golf club and garish sweater?

+ swoopy looks
- most have sooty engines

Yeuck.

Plastic, blingy, overpriced, fragile, expensive to repair, over complicated tat.

Utterly vile. Looks like it was styled by a committee led by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles. And the entire world will automatically consider you a nob of immense proportions for driving such a thing.

Not keen on it, and I disliked the previous version as well.

My dad had a 2007 CLS500 and it was nothing but trouble.

Plus some people liked the styling, others hated it.

Personally I thought it looked like a Citroen that had been bent in the middle.

Agreed. If it's good enough for Ray it's got to be cool.

I've always admired the CLS, and once we get to a stage in our lives that we are unable to haul ourselves out of the spider, we shall be looking at Merc and without doubt a decent used CLS.
