Honda 2&4 concept

The winning entry in an internal design competition at Honda, Looks like it may may make it into production

Pretty much a motorbike with 4 wheels. Motorbike style central aluminium back bone, central fuel tank and motorbike engine. Room enough for 2 and almost no body panels.

999CC V4 engine with 212bhp and ovr 13000 RPM

Only 405kg so its going to be pretty fast

Might be a bit expensive tho, the bike it is designed from is over £250k

Cool and not very far off sub zero if it makes it to production.

Colour scheme echoes that of the Honda's RA272 the 1965 winning F1 car - first ever Japanese car to win in F1.

Shorter and lower than an Ariel Atom. 405kgs. It's a superbly mad toy.

We need more toys in the world.

+ Wildly purposeful
- Wildly pointless

Have you all gone mad? At least half of it appears to be missing going off picture one for a start. It vaguely reminds me of that bit in Breaking Bad where Gus Fring walks out of the old guy's room after the bomb and looks ok, then it cuts to the other side of his face and it's all gone.

You'd have to drive everywhere in a helmet so you'd look stupid, if it rains you'll get absolutely soaked unless you wear your gimp suit, if you go through a puddle it'll throw water in your face. If it only weighs 450kg why does it need massive ultra low profile tyres? It'll grip and grip and grip, then, before you can say snap oversteer, you'll have gone backwards through a dry stone wall.

Seriously uncool.

IF it gets made it'd be a track toy. You'd never seriously use it on the road so that argument flops. By that token almost half all the yank stuff you like is seriously uncool simply because they plough off into dry-stone walls when you introduce then to a bend at anything above walking speed.

It's a toy. It's irrelevant. Irrelevant toys can be cool.

And some of us would look better in a full face helmet. We could pretend to be fat Stig.

But if you have an off-road excursion in a '64 Impala, at least you've got somewhere warm and dry to sit whilst you wait for the emergency services and a tow. Though, to be fair, in that you'll have been squished into mince that will just leak of of the harness slots in the seat so being cold and wet will cease to be an issue.

Bit of an odd one really.

I can see the appeal, but like all of these things you will not be getting:

Air conditioning, sat nat, any decent engine noise, a boot, mirrors, ...

And the premium for this will be extortionate. For having nothing at all, but the privilege of it looking somewhere between a modern go-kart and a track car, I bet you will be paying prices that are just ridiculous.

It reminds me of this:

Zenos E10 - Zenos Cars

Where again, its a stunning looking little car, but really? £24,000! Are they mad? The Zenos is even more annoying because it is so close to being a true MX-5 rival; but doesn't have a bloody boot!

I was thinking about this as I drove home and considering whether my initial view was a bit harsh. I came to the conclusion that it wasn't.

However, whilst I think the concept is far too hard core to be any use to anyone sensible, I like that Honda have their people thinking this stuff up and are considering building it.

That was my conclusion and for that, I think it just squeaks into cool.

Wobbles, we all know you are too old and far too logical to have any potential to comprehend the concept of what is cool. Ergo your views do not count. The fact that you mention (a) cost (b) MX5 sensibility and (c) a boot FFS in one sentence serves to reinforce my point.

Yay! I also meant to quote kb. He's dangerously close to getting it in that last post. The thinking is cool. It's exciting. It's daft. It's fun. It looks mad.

Designed for one thing.

Driving pleasure...

I like it, but it would be better if the seat was in the middle.

Office Chair.

I'm not quite sure. I don't think it is totally uncool but like the Aerial Atom it seems a bit mad and pointless. I mean totally pointless for the road.
A great track toy so why bother with number plates and such?

On the track you look cool for sure but on the road getting there? I can see it might save you the cost of a trailer and 4x4 load hugger.

Like the AA I'd love a go. On the track and not my car (I'm incompetent)

However on the road No chance because I refer to this Cool Wall to be road going cars it has to be uncool. If it was for track cars then of course anyone of Shoemaker's F1 Ferraris would be the coolest.
Best racing cars.... In the worrrllldd (don't give me any German Mercedes crap either pffft, you all sound like my hairdresser SLK owning brother - pah)

I'm not going anywhere, I'm just going.
Statements above are all my own opinion and not fact.

Useless.

If it was an affordable (to whom?) track thingy then great. But would you really want to buy a track car and drag it from place to place to race (I know rgwm does) and only be able to use it then? It does not cut it in the real world, it looks like a certain death trap. It's not even particularly clever as a track concept, why put the seat at the side so you can kill yourself understeering around right hand bends when you could stick it it the middle to get a better centre of gravity and more structural safety etc?

Meh.

Looks to me like a lawn tractor out of the “Transformers” films having an incredibly bad day.

Used to make pretty cool motorbikes in the past, but when it comes to 4 wheels Honda design has always been a bit of a pigs’ breakfast.

Honda engines even turned McLaren into McMinardi.
Seriously uncool for me.
