Volvo C70 Mk2

Sweden's take on the folding metal roof coupe cabriolet, complete with a much fancier roof mechanism than anything from Mercedes Benz and available with a 2.5 turbo 5 pot, later found in the Focus RS. Oh and a couple of diesel engines

From personal experience, a very good car. But is it cool?

Hmmm this is a tough one...

Not bad looking, but nothing too memorable. Fancy folding hard top is good, good engine and such like but it's still a Volvo and to me unless it's a polestar it isn't cool... It's not uncool tho either coz it's a bit different and Sweden is pretty cool...

I'm really torn on this one actually

It's rather nice. Quite sensible for what it is. Safe, of course.

And just uncool.

On the facelift Mk2 T5, a Polestar performance upgrade was available. And so was Rebel Blue

The original C70 was a great looking car. That one is a bit bigger, a lot heavier, and has the slightly off proportions that most folding metal roof cars have.

Uncool (as was the original).

I think it's quite handsome. The interior is also a really nice place to be. The roof looks good, but the amount of space it leaves in the boot is utterly laughable. It is literally big enough for a briefcase and nothing else with the roof folded.

All that aside, I think it's quietly, sophisticatedly, cool.

I never drove the original in coupe form, only cabriolet. This model is from a completely different generation. This one is light years ahead in terms of quality and driveability

As Gaz says, it's a really nice car to be in and drive. In auto guise with the top down it's unlike anything else I've been in and I think Greener's wrong about Polestar - making it harsh and quick would ruin it. It's far better looking than the BMW, Audi, Mercedes etc. competition and I like it.

Is it cool though? If I tooled up by myself with the top down then probably not. My wife's better looking than me and so is my kid so I think as a family we might be able to pull it off.

Smooth machine which one of our neighbours had fo a while.

He didn't keep it for very long though, and told me he much preferred his Rover 75?

No longer allowed to drive anything on docs instructions, poor old chap. :

But this is the cool wall not the quality and driveability wall. The original cabrio was, by all accounts, a bit of a horror show in the chassis department but both coupe and cabrio were very good looking (but not cool either).

You are a member of volvoforums.org and I claim my five pounds prize money. Throw in a comment about ford stealing Volvo engines to put in the Focus and I'll say it again and make a tenner.

Anyway, ours is Dutch.

I don't think any 4 seat convertible is cool to be honest. Unless you are into socks with sandals, and flip up shades.
