Toyota Carina E

Japanese but made in Britain. Luxurios? Comfortable? Reliable?
No idea, but the real question is: is it cool?

Another outstanding example of why we need a 'Meh' category.

I'd vote but it's not even worthy of thinking about really.

Put this on pensioners'r'us.org and you'll have a winner.

it was awesome in terms of reliability, comfortable for the money and was playing in BTCC (that adds a bit of coolness automatically)

Uncool, and that is giving it the benefit of any doubt. But a good car for sure. I ditched my Alfa 33 for one of these (Carina E 1.6) many years ago. Six years and 38K when I bought it, I ran it for 5 years then gave it to my Dad who's Lancia Thema was rusting away - he ran it for another 8 years until his eyesight was giving up in old age. Only normal maintenance and a water pump in that time. Very boring but quite good.

You can fit a bathtub in the back. Discovered that after sawing old bathtub in half then discovering that it would have fitted anyway.

Got the 156 after the Carina, followed by two 159s.

Alfa 159 ti 2.0JTDm
ex. 33 1.7 16V Cloverleaf, 156 SW 2.0JTS, 159 1.9JTDm

My wife had a 1.6 "e" as her first ever car, I bought it for about £197.00 ( yes really) on fleabay and sold it for £ 120 a year later after she wrapped it around some iron gates. When we sold it, it needed a new clutch, exhaust, mot and tyre's, but it was an amazingly good car sooo comfortable and with great handling, we missed it when it was gone.
I voted uncool cos despite how competent it was they are still used as minicabs in Leicester.

First car I ever produced. Very proud of it we were with it's 'Clean Burn' engine and all that.

The GTI version (160 bhp) had the Celica engine and was quite rapid.....but was only produced in Japan. :doh2:

Anyway, taking all of that into account putting that all aside, of course, I would be crazy to vote anything other than SERIOUSLY UNCOOL.

This one is so exciting it has taken me 3 days to summon the enthusiasm to state the bleeping obvious.

You need this for it. Just use it. Please.

As a device for moving people around reliably and with comfort it has a lot of merit, hence I am giving it an uncool rather than seriously uncool.

Office Chair.

It was a car for people to buy and use. It won't ever be cool but did help Toyota (I'd suspect) become one of the most successful car manufacturers along with the Corolla.
