Plymouth Barracuda

1965 example (first generation) -

2nd generation - 1967 example -

gen 3 (1970 on) -

Plenty of performance engine options - particularly gen 2 and 3 with the famous Hemi 'cudas.

I'd have one.

1st gen, no.
2nd gen, interesting.
3rd gen - absolutely freaking awesome.

I think I posted on here a while back about accidentally attending a US car meet. There were Chargers and 'Stangs there - and there was one 'Cuda, in 70's-tastic lurid green, and it knocked them all out of the park, it was just perfect.

I've even felt motivated to actually vote on this poll, which I almost never do.

Correct, and that's why I can't vote better than cool. This is a patented Steve non-specific poll for every Plymouth Barracuda, including the first gens and whatever column change auto slant six budget models came out over the years.

Would we prefer single-spec, single-model polls?

I pity the fool who would buy one of these without a Hemi in it.

I had to vote sub-zero despite the first-generation model being a bit meh.

The problem with the first-gen was bad timing. A few weeks after it was introduced Ford brought out the Mustang; what may have looked sleek & sporty suddenly became dumpy & staid.

Very good insight that, Dave. I didn't think it looked bad, but it isn't a knockout like the Mustang was. Simple as that.

I'd take a second or third generation one over a Mustang any day of the week. So, in order, uncool (because it's a bit plodding), cool (because it's not a Mustang), sub-zero with a 440 or a Hemi in a crazy colour.

The Hemi engine design is still the basis for Top Fuel dragsters offering 8-10,000 BHP and 0-300mph in 4 or so seconds.

The NHRA agree with you, hence top fuel cars no longer race over a full quarter mile. How does 1000 feet, from a standing start, in 3.7 seconds grab you?

I think they're clearer. Voting on a nameplate which spanned decades and included a range of spec levels and body styles (fastback, notchback, convertible) across multiple distinct generations might not produce very conclusive data.

I do like the Gen 3 but I'd still take a 60's fastback Stang. One day KB, one day
