Stupid and bloated works for me. Not as cool as the earlier ones, and you probably need to think about you hair and wardrobe, but still cool.

I recall a fellah' who had this mahoosive yank tank, who would brag, boast, moast, about it's length being more than the width of his drum!

Much to the annoyance of his neighbours?

Due South was an immensely good show. The mere mention of this car just had me scouring Amazon live to see if I could stream the episodes, but no luck.

Why is there this huge list of American muscle from the 60's and 70's, all of which instantly make your mind start playing wacca wacca guitar riffs in the background? It's like every single US manufacturer had at least one of them, and there were hundreds of manufacturers.

Because every film and tv show from the 70s had one, and a wacca wacca theme tune. If you grew up watching Smokey and the bandit, dukes of hazzard, Rockford files, gumball rally, Bullitt, Hooper, the driver and so on, it's bound to have an effect. The Morry thou David Yip drove in the Chinese detective just isn't the same.

I agree. But I guess my question was more about how there are dozens of these cars, all really similar to each other. Maybe that's why? So each TV show could have its own car?

Because flatform sharing has been big in the US for a very long time. In the same way that VAG offer Audi for ****s (present company excepted), VW for badge snobs, Skoda for tight folk, Seat for people who like left overs, US car makers would have a run of the mill brand, a performance brand, a luxury brand, and so on.

Is their market being so granulated the reason why so many of them have gone to the wall.

I like that Steve has now started to preempt everyone disagreeing with him on the coolness of a car with angry sounding poll titles.

A lot like British Leyland. The only difference being that Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Cadillac were all going after different sectors of the market whereas all BL brands were basically aimed at the same bloke. When US car buyers only bought US cars, there was enough business for all those brands. When those pesky Japanese showed up, the end was in sight.
