Chaparral 2J

I love cheaty/winny cars that end up in the rules being changed. On the 1970 Chaparral the chassis had ground-effect skirts that pre-dated F1. At the back end they whacked in a two stroke snowmobile engine. The combination of the two devices was, like the later Alfa/Brabham fan car, to suck the car onto the track, regardless of cornering force or bumps in the road.

The 2J competed in the Can-Am series and qualified at least 2 seconds quicker than the next fastest car. Mechnical issues plagued it though, and it only ran for a single season before it was banned.

All Chaparral's are cool, and the 2j was way ahead of it's time. Sub-Zero for me.

Member car:

AMG C63 estate

Looks like it was knocked up in a garden shed.

And I don't think race cars are cool as a general rule.

l seem to recall it was named the Sucker Car for obvious reasons. Saw one running up the hill at Goodwood and it just sounded weird with the snowmobile engine making the most noise at constant revs while the car was obviously accelerating hard.
