I set little store by that. She's probably past it now but even if not, she'd know she was likely relegated to best supporting cast member appearing alongside that.

Amongst racing cars it's up there with the 250F and the Ferrari 156 in the coolness stakes. However, as a car it loses many coolness points (in my eyes) because it's not really a usable proposition.

Usable, schmoozable. What are you looking for a cool 8 seater pick up?

Something slightly less specialized maybe? A nice Quattroporte or maybe a Khamsin.

Both cool too. It's not that exclusive a club. But if practicability is a factor the Khamsin is a stretch. Barely usable as a 2+2 and not exactly acres of luggage space......as if that matters!

However, we could come over all Autocar and simply declare the Golf to be the winner in all categories.

Except best sportscar which would obviously be the 911 (or am I getting confused with EVO?)

A bit like that new lightweight E-type, cool isn't the right word for the birdcage. It's more like a piece of art. I could look at it for ages without getting bored.

There should be a picture of the insides with all the latticework.
