The styling was very neat and ahead of its time but, like the XR3i, it just looks so 80s it's untrue. A 16v with an XE in it might just sneak into cool by means of being the quickest N/A hot hatch but the 8v is just the wrong side of the mark.

If the aircon worked really well, it could easily be mistaken for a fridge.

Which I guess, technically, might make it cool?

The styling was ahead yes. I voted the Mk1 as uncool because it looked a little boring even in the day. I just think despite the MKII's "futuristic" looks it still appears even duller than the MKI. Super duper uncool.

Never mind the looks, the handling was appalling.

So I see

The problem is unpredictability. Youíre never quite sure what the car is going to do next, with all four corners having a mind of their own.
Full article, worth a look for a bit of a laugh!

My mate had a 2.0 16 Valve one of these and it went like a rocket.

140mph plus easily...

But it handling was poor and it was unreliable. (Porous cylinder head anyone?)

It was never cool though, and to my eyes it was pretty ugly.

I think it is slightly more cool that it used to be however as there are not many left with chavs driving them.

Uncool. The basic shape was actually fairly non-descript but it got your attention with all the addenda. It is one that hasn't mellowed with time either. The wrong 80's vibe really.

That it drove like a POS and came with a Griffin badge made it uncool even back then and only adds to its enduring lack of appeal now.
