It lacks the class of the MK2 Golf. It doesn't look right the way an XR3 does. It's not as dire as an MG Maestro but it's a long way from being cool.

I know what you mean, however the styling even then was a bit average. It has aged reasonably well but it has never had the Golf GTI, XR3i or dare I say it..ooo err well err Peugeot 205 GTi (oh ******** I typed it let alone said it ) following.

I'd say cool, simply because it was the first car that gave the GTI a run for its money, the XR3 was better looking but driven by a***holes back in the 80's.
