It's a handsome thing but I can't decide if it's a bit nerdy or a tax fiddle. I will consider further.

Musk is a man with a vision and the brains and funds to see it through. He'd be daft not to take all the dollars the US wants to throw at him to develop his cars and spacecraft.

So I admire the man but what about the car?

Do I want one? Yes. Would I like to be seen in one? No, not while it's so exclusive and that's the problem - it's too damn expensive, unnecessarily so. Is it cool? Just.

Unlike the Model X, this Telsa's actually cool. It's about the first mass-market electric car that looks good (rather than like a BMW i3) and goes fast. You might buy this because it's desirable, not just because it's electric and you want to be seen to be green.
Saleen even make a tuner version of the Model S, called the FOURSIXTEEN (all in capitals, for reduced coolness). Unfortunately it's evident that the Saleen family aren't cool and shouldn't do their own interviews:

Worryingly, I think this is cool. I'm not worried because it is electric. I'm concerned that (again) I find myself totally in agreement with Ben which must be wrong!

A lot of what Tesla is trying to do is genuinely game-changing and that is cool too.

Difficult. Difficult because it's both a new ZZZZ car and at the same time a greeny. So to many none petrolheads this will most certainly be seen as cool.
As a petrolhead though, it being new and a bit generic I'm going with uncool.

Spot the 8C wing vents (and the vw passat cc wheels and the puegeot front end...)

Awesome technology, not sure about the packaging.

Undoubtably the technology is what this car is about, and it IS the future of motoring, they give the tech away, no patents no nothing, so why would other companies develop their own competing technologies.

I'd even go so far as saying at some point it might even become and technological revolution if manufacturers decide to pool resources to accelerate the evolution of this technology.

They still need to put it in a better looking wrapper though.

And as far as the cool wall goes, I don't think it would factor very high at all, so uncool.

That's an interesting thought. Is their giving away of patents actually going to hold development back, because no one bothers to find a better way?

Although I suspect standardisation will outweigh that hypothetical disadvantage.

As I've said on my comment on the model X
"What's not to like?
My neighbour has a Tesla S and two Sundays running he's had to put an extension cable through the letterbox and a box under the bumper to support it and allow him to plug his £75000 car into the mains !
To make it supercool he has to put duck tape over the lead on the pavement so nobody trips on it."
If they get more competitors to adopt electricity then the infrastructure will develop . Then they can sell out to Google.

I suspect Musk is smart enough to know he can't change the whole ecosystem on his own so he needs to make the price of entry into the club much lower. After all, it's mainly the American public who financed those patents in the first place.

An electric vehicle should be so much easier, reliable, longer lasting and cheaper to produce. I'm astonished that there aren't more players.

In places where you can park safely next to a charging point, there is great potential but many Europeans live in houses and apartments which have unpredictable on street parking !

Well there's a showroom in Knutsford now, and charging stations at the Trafford Centre, so that's one major demographic sorted already!

There are 8 charging points within 5 mins walk of my office. Doesn't sound a lot but I've never seen more than 1 occupied at any given time.

I've decided this is cool. I like that, whilst the tech is cutting edge, they have resisted the urge to make it look futuristic (I.e. Crap).

It's a bit Jaguar XF in the looks (innit?)

But not as good.

It runs on Elektrickery, but I like that (if I could get a leaf for what I paid for TRS, I'd do it!) but I don't think it's cool.

Tech ain't really that cool in new cars.

What's cool is : 1 the silence when it arrives or drives away( once charged) and those solid aluminum door handles slide out and are then illuminated.

See what I mean? It's all a bit 'pointless action man torch', when did you last struggle to find your door handles?

When did you last drive home from the pub in rural Ireland? Seriously, I wonder how some of these old boys find their own vehicle of a night.
