Lovely car indeed! They are quite expensive still, but oddly can appear to be a car that has seldom been bought with actual money; rather with a fishing rod or crowbar.

Uggo. The earlier version was a far better looking car.

I bet it's great to drive but it's a bit of a hooligan's car. Uncool.

sorry Gaz, I'm with Bazza on this one.

The first looked razor sharp, but this one - while it has potential, style-wise - is a bit too blobby to my eyes.

never driven either, so this is purely a comment based crudely on looks.

Looks are subjective i personally think the earlier version is now very dated whereas this one looks a bit more with it

Each to their own

One of the few non-hideous, sporty cars which I would class as seriously uncool.

They're hard to defend because their supposed strength is performance, but they're only good in relative terms (relative to hotted-up FWD hatchbacks with small, naturally-aspirated mass production engines). They also achieve their strength in nerdy ways:
"My engine's got a really high specific power output for a road car, because it's factory blueprinted and it's got VTEC, but not the economy VTEC! It can rev higher than comparable engines!"
It's therefore difficult to make a case for a Type R while sounding cool and without having to make excuses.

For many reasons, Type Rs (and the standard model Integras) are regularly subjected to awful boyracer / Chav cosmetic modifications. For a time, they were also the default boring cop-out car with which to enter amateur motorsport events, requiring no effort or originality on the part of the entrant.
No matter what your budget though, if you wanted to go as fast as possible for the money, you wouldn't buy a Type R. And given that they have a bad image and no other appeal that I can see, they get seriously uncool.

I think Japanese cars are generally quite nerdy and need explaining so they always struggle in the coolness stakes. If you drive a 3-series (for example), you can just say it's a 3-series. A car person might ask about engines and E-numbers but it isn't necessary. If it's Japanese you need make, model, engine, and a ****load of letters and numbers straight off to show that it's not a grandad special.

This looks like a more grown up Toyota Paseo ,despite the mechanical stuff underneath . Early version had its own look that made it almost cool ,but not this edition.

Personally I prefer the older body version, but they have probably all been lowered and chavved to death by now! IFIRC they had a 9k redline??
