McLaren P1

Another member of the new breed hypercar, only British! Using hybrid technology to aid performance rather than improve economy, it has a 3.8 twin turbo V8 delivering 727bhp, aided by an electric motor with an extra 176bhp, giving a total of 903bhp. It can run in electric only mode and has a range of around 6 miles

But is it cool?

I think it's amazing from a technology viewpoint but it's not exactly pretty and, like pretty much all super or hypercars, I'd feel like a bell end driving it. Happy to have a go in one if anyone wants to chuck me the keys but, ultimately, if I was going to drive a bell end car regularly it would have to be an F40.

Uncool (I think).

The 6 mile EV range is a bit of a joke on one hand or a refreshingly honest use of it as a means to boost performance in ultimate nutter mode thereby flicking a V at the green's anti fun, anti car agenda on the other.

Dramatic and flamboyant, heavily self aggrandising styling has never boiled my kettle but despite that I think it has some kind of character which is attractive in a way.

Like the 918, it is the garlic bread of hyper cars. It is the future and it's encouraging for us as enthusiasts that engineers can find a way to give us what we crave instead of milk floats.

It's still uncool though.

6 miles is a reasonable range from a mews garage in Kensington on a Sunday . Enough to get the paper and pose down the Kings Rd and up Sloane Street!

I can appreciate the engineering, but if I saw someone driving one I'd think [email protected] rather than wow.

It doesn't have a place on the road, it's a rich mans plaything, a track toy.

Good to see the Cool Wall back.

P.S. Apparently it's a "Whole new thing"

When I saw it at its launch at Geneva , I preferred the Aventador next door. A white open Aventador is a bit more dramatic .

I love it.

Futuristic, brilliantly and it is (Mostly) British.

Kids will stare, so will parents.

Office Chair.

It simple.
An obscene amount of money and a brand new hypercar. It's not cool, its simply crass.
A bloody good car mind I'm sure

Would love to drive one too

Are you from Dubai ?

As for the car in question "I drive a Mclaren" does sound rather cool although it could be construed as meaning that one knows a thing or two about prams etc.
