Ford Escort RS Cosworth

A homologation special produced from 1992-1996, turbocharged 2.0 and 4WD

Probably one of the most instantly recognisable special editions produced. But is it cool?

I like the idea of it... Make it really fast

But the stupid rear wing and the fact that's it's an Essex boys car makes it uncool...

Too me the Sierra cosworth is much cooler

I like a Fast Ford but for some reason I never took to the Escort Cossie. At the time it seemed that most of them were driven by would-be gangsters. I prefer the original loopy Sierra and grandad's Sapphire.

It's more interesting now than it was but doesn't quite make it into cool for me. Dreary mainstream looks with ostentatious BFOW on the back just draws attention to itself in entirely the wrong way. I wouldn't be in the least surprised if it didn't even work.

I can't speak for the Escort but the Sierra one did. That was Ford's first proper foray into aerodynamics and whilst they were slippery, they were very susceptible to crosswinds and had a problem with lift. Even boggo cars got a little aerofoil on the rear quarterlight to calm them down. When developing the 3-door Cossie they originally used fibreglass but had to use kevlar because the fibreglass kept cracking.

Liked 'em when they came out. More than a touch of Mexico syndrome now, with cosseted super-tuned examples that the 200sx/GTR set goggle over.

Between Meh and uncool, but I would have an unmolested example.

I like fast fords, came close to getting a ST220 but kept eyeing up pictures of 159's which I had always liked and after a go in one the style and interior kind of put paid to the Mondeo.

It was a good car but it just can't compare to the looks of the 159

That escort will likely be worth a lot more money in future, pretty much depreciation proof and it is a nice car, agree on the spoiler though looks not good....

Drove one once. The original owner had traded it in for a Rover 220 coupe :what:

All of the staff took it out one after the other. Remember it have shot loads of lag and then a lot of power. At the time thought it was a cool as, but now would much rather have the original 3door cosworth

+1 to a point. I still think it's cool as most fast Fords (depending on age) are.
The Sierra Cosworth I do hold in higher regard. As one picture above confirmed, Clarkson owned one (Escort) so that will also prevent it being sub-zero.

Seriously uncool, Essex chav mobile and is nowhere near the coolness of an RS500 Sierra.

No thanks. but it is great car.

To me its like an Audi Quattro. Good car technically but would feel like a massive ASS HOLE driving one.
