TVR Griffith 500

Small, lightweight, powerful open sports car with a thunderous soundtrack

Is it cool?

It is a design classic.

They look a bit dated now, but when it came out the styling was groundbreaking.

They are even pretty reliable, especially compared to later cars with TVR's own engine.

They had various versions of the Rover/Buick V8.

They did 4.0, 4.3 and 5.0 Versions.

The 5.0 has very little in common with the original Rover unit apart of course from the block and heads, but they are extensively modified.

Sub zero!
One of my all time favourites!
Feel in love with it when I saw it debut at the NEC Motorshow when I was in my teens... Many moons ago!

Possibly the best looking British sportscar ever (and best sounding). If I was to buy a proper sportcar, it would be this. Does that make it uncool?

I reckon it probably squeaks into cool. There is something of the whiff of medallion man about its image still, and a whiff of pi$5 inside it, no doubt.

Still, it has all the credentials for a bit of a mad sports car with more character than the anodyne shared-platform, mass-produced stuff can barely imagine wishing for.

That and the knowledge it is just waiting to kill you the first time you take it out in the wet; and knowing that every other enthusiast who sees you driving it knows that....is fairly cool.

Still very cool .
Saw one last week and the wheels looked tiny by comparison with modern sports cars.
I'd love one but think it'd probably bankrupt me .

Unfortunately KB, yes it does, however you'll be pleased to know only the one you would, and/or Gazzy buy will be uncool, the brand and model will survive

The mini's reputation seems largely untarnished and we've both had one of those.

How come Gaz?

I think the styling has aged much better than the similar era Chimaera and Cerbera.

I just dont like the styling. Sorry to any owners and/or ex owners

Its all subjective isnt it. I love the Chim and Cerb styling while others will no doubt think they are hideous

Styling doesnt detract from it being a great car though, and i wont argue that it is cool. Its that personal styling issue that stops it being sub zero though

I don't think the Chimaera or the Cerbera are hideous, they are still very nice.

The Chimaera looks a bit awkward at the back though to me due to the way they styled it to have a big boot.

The main problem with the Griff rear is the upside down Cavalier tailights.

The Chimaera and Cerbera used Fiesta ones instead.
