I absolutely adored the M100 when I was a kid. Not so sure now, it just doesn't look 'special'.
The fact it was later available with a Kia badge doesn't help it either.

I dunno - at the time I thought it was too wedgy and chunky, and now I quite like it.

The early version of this had quite clever, trick (and expensive to build) suspension if I recall correctly which was more interesting than just about anything else about this rather apologetic "sports" car.

It hasn't aged particularly badly but that is in no small part due to its incredibly bland and vaguely portly looks. Tidy but dull.

It hardly sets the pulse racing does it?

Uncool.

Meh. Never did anything for me when it was a new car. Does nothing for me now

Lotus, where the emphasis on a car is all about fun, lightness and handling, made this front wheel drive. Now it may well be a good drive for a fwd car, but its still fwd. i think the word is FAIL

Uncool

A neighbour of ours had one in that yellow and this colour and its strangely floppy look earned it the name "the Flan".

Sub zero for me, was for many years on my dream car list, more than likely because of this its supposed to be one of the best handling front wheel drive cars of all time.

Is FWD that important, - especially looking at your member cars? It's a long time since Alfa made anything RWD and affordable.

As a serial buyer of old sports cars I like the "new" Elan, not enough to have bought one yet but only because not the right price etc. I am RWD by nature, but can be persuaded otherwise.

Great car so they tell me - never been in one. Supposedly good engine and looks the product of its era.

Don't care whether it's FWD, RWD, AWD, NWD and Kia badge irrelevant. Cool to me.

I want it to be cool because it's a Lotus

...but it isn't.

I don't care whether it's cool or not. I liked them then and I still do. I'll take mine in Norfolk Mustard please.

Top answer
The Kia badge of other models is irrelevant. A Lotus is cool.

I suspect it was designed as FWD because GM owned Lotus at the time and RWD would kinda go against the flow for Opel/Vauxhall in Europe. Don't think Lotus have made another FWD since, a bit like the 4 valve heads Lotus made briefly for the Corvette in the same era, company politics methinks. I'll still have one, preferably not in Norfolk Yellow mind!

GM and Isuzu were pretty tightly linked at that time and the Élan shared an engine with the Piazza which was known as the impulse in the Us , itself a "t car "( chevette) re bodied by giugiaro .

My GF likes them, I kind of do a bit too.
I'm a bit multifaceted here and not consistent. Whilst I think the 916 Spider is cool I don't think the M100 is, and because it is FWD. It just seemed a bit more wrong in the Lotus than it does the Alfa.
That's it FWD = uncool.

Cool.

They only got cooler when Eau Rouge bought one.

Shades of MGF what with the parts bin ingenuity?
