A collaboration between two respected companies. Is it cool?

Interesting one this. I saw one parked outside a country cafe the other day (a coupe). It's one of those rear occasions the cars look better in photos than in the 'flesh'. Still cool though.

The train :(

Don't like Mercedes - cracking engineering, absolutely top notch but just don't like the marque.

Vulgar. As an Italian friend would say "baroque" but then that's today's Mercedes.
It sounds amazingly synthetic compared to a Ferrari .

Really ?

You honestly think AMG engines sound synthetic ?

I am genuinely surprised that anybody with A) a love of cars and B) ears would think that.

That aside I want to like this car but can't. It's all a bit too Dubai.

Uncool

I am afraid the Germans do not have the same idea of fun as us . Have you been to Germany?
I have spent time there and have colleagues from Germany and well ,it's not the same .

Yep spent plenty of time there and work with them just about every week.

Not sure what that has to do with an AMG engine though which are, in my opinion, a long long way from synthetic sounding.

Just seeing and hearing those chintzy C class AMG estates going round the track at their Brooklands World with a failed taillight reminds me how Mercedes have given up on their roots and cashed in on when they were over engineered . A bit like the Russian mafia stuff bang and olufsen do now. At least they have brought out Beo play .

Seeing as though I share the same name as the 'McLaren' I'd have to say sub zero, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to enter a merc garage and ask them to find me an SLR, when the reply comes 'And what's the name sir?' and I reply with 'Well that would be McLaren'. Quality!

Don't like it, the engine is in the wrong place for a 2 seater supercar.

If I had the money I would buy something else, like a Lambo or a Ferrari.

I was behind the saloon version of the AMG Doodah that you've ordered RSK and it doesn't sound synthetic to me. It sounds like a V8 with as many silencers as it needs to be legal but no more. It sounded so good that I turned off my James Last tape and wound the windows down to listen.

Don't Ferrari use valves in the exhaust to make them sound the way they do?

My F355 is quite reasonable below 3000rpm. There is a bypass which has lesser CAT's or CAT to be precise, controlled as you say with a valve. It does make a difference. It is all about keeping emissions but allowing a lovely noise too. I think other manufactures do it. Maserati for one.
For me they should just ditch the restrictive CATS . I did wire mine open at one point but the noise did become a little intrusive over time
