Toyota GT-86

The new driver-oriented Toyota made in collaboration with Subaru. Is it cool?

What they're attempting with this car is commendable, and I'll be interested to see if it succeeds. Certain aspects are cool, like the way you can order a blank canvas spec with steel wheels and unpainted bumpers, and how the boot is sized to hold track day wheels. But the car as a whole isn't quite cool. Two different manufacturers shouldn't sell identical cars for a start.

It would be interesting to see how the old AE86 Corolla Coupe fared on the cool wall.

I do like it, qapart from the deeply gash red bits inside but I don't think it's cool.

On your first point, I'd like to know that as well. A future poll may come.

On the interior, I picked this photo because it was the only one with the wheel on the right (wrong ) side, the rest of them did not have the red accents and were all black.

Cool because it doesn't have as much grip as the Subaru (softer rear springs apparently) so it wags a bit more easily. Seems the engine is a bit of a let down but I love the concept.

My old AE86 coupe was far cooler though!

The AE86 is on my should have bought but didn't list. Radcliffe car auctions circa 1991 and it sold for 1200.

Mine was a happy rebound from nearly buying an almost new XR2 from Route One Ford but they sold it despite my 100 deposit but I was never really a Ford man so they did me a favour and a week later I came across my mint black 2 yr old 1986 model with just over 12k on it and I kept it for 5 joy-filled, fun, reliable years, woo'ed Lisa in it, travelled to rallies, holidays, commuted to work in relative comfort as it was my first new-ish car - loads of my very favourite memories and it handled like an absolute dream.

You really should have, mate.

I genuinely did shed a tear as I watched the guy drive it away and I was taking calls for about 3 weeks offering more than I'd advertised - It had hardly depreciated anyway from what I'd paid and the only repair other than consumables had been a N/S/R caliper sticking that needed a bit of emery and new seals.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Visually it's just into cool, but I'd also heard poor things about the engine (and it's poor on GT5 ) and the garish red bits inside don't help... Just uncool.

After I read your post, I was reminded of Nigel Tufnel's "These go to eleven".

I voted cool. It reminds me of something though and I'm struggling to remember what. Maybe a bit Nissan 350zish?
