Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde

In a complete departure from the usual subjects of the Cool Wall, I post the Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde. This is a one-time-only occasion, and normal service will be resumed afterwards.

I believe it does deserve a place in this or any Cool Wall.

What a pointless poll!!!!

Sub zero, unquestionably.

The supercar of airliners. Cramped, noisy, expensive, uneconomic, beautiful and irrelevant in so many sensible, economically viable ways that flies in the face of corporate common sense so much so that it cannot possibly be anything but sub-zero.

Sub zero in BOAC or BA livery (especially Landor (pic 5)),

slightly chilly if in Air France guise.

I actually defy anyone to say it isn't the coolest thing ever.

My list of cool gear - probably decided upon when I was 10 had the following:

- spitfire
- concorde
- saturn V
- lotus esprit (white - spy who loved me)
- racquel welch
- all incarnations of both Campbell's Bluebird's
- The Mallard steam train

I stand by them all now as incontravertibly, incontestibly sub-zero - every darn one of them!

Absolutely stunning, used to pass over our house daily, you could set your watch by it ( even changed for summer time ). It would stretch by over a foot in flight

Why couldn't such cutting edge technology be developed ?

Without doubt, the most sensationally breathtakingly beautiful piece of engineering.. ever.

No car comes close.

Living in Plymouth we wound hear the sonic boom when it flew overhead, regular as clockwork
I used to live in Bristol, right behind Filton Airfield, when it was in for servicing they used to fly it back to London leaving Bristol at about 8pm, when she roared up the runway she would make the windows rattle in the house, but the sight on an autumn evening of her lifting off with the sun behind her and the four engines emitting their 'glow' was a sight to behold

Who knows, but we can always say that we achieved something that the US still have not managed even today, we developed a supersonic passenger aircraft.

And the plane is immortalised in that phrase "A Concorde moment"

Sub Zero for sure, i defy anyone to say otherwise

By decommissioning this we have taken a step back in time. So cool it's beyond arctic and as said above a masterpiece of engineering and beauty. And a red hot poker in the eye to uncle sam too

Well today, we have not gone forward from this aircraft. Just bigger sardine cans.

Very seldom do humans take a technological step backwards. But in the case of Concorde, we very much have done. Supersonic air travel should be the norm in the 21st century. Instead we're as far from it as we were in the 1960's.

Sub-zero

Yep, I drive past it every day. Absolutely disgraceful, when you think of all the money spent on monuments and sculptures, that this thing of beauty isn't even worthy of a hangar.
