Lotus Esprit V8

One of the most beautiful and great handling British supercars produced. In its final incarnation the Esprit had a V8 instead of the original I4. This edition retains the front lip spoiler that was used the the Sport 350 for added stability at higher speeds.

Engine: Lotus 918 90º V8
Displacement: 3,506 cc
Aspiration: Twin Turbos
Power: 350 bhp (261 kW) @ 6,500 rpm
Torque: 295 lb·ft @ 4,250 rpm
Configuration: Mid-engined, rear-wheel drive
Weight: 1,380 kilo (3,042.4 lbs)
0 - 60 mph: 4.8 seconds
Top speed: 175 mph (282 km/h)

Difficult one this one, really don't know if it's a 'cool' car as it never appealed to me

I remember reading they had two different steering wheel styles. And the one I posted is the 2002 edition. Still, you may be right.

Edit: I found another shot that I'm sure is from the 2002 V8 model and put it in the original post.

Thanks for the heads up!

I seem to be in a minority of 1 from the first 11 votes! Uncool.

As with all Lotus (Lotii??) you want to like them but a feeling of bonhomie is insufficient to render this plastic old bus cool.

The Esprit remained fairly handsome over its VERY long life despite the addenda that cluttered its original, clean shape. However, it dragged on for far too long and even with a V8 it never seemed to quite cut it, for me, even as a junior supercar.

I might be doing them a disservcie but you just get the feeling that almost all their owners have graduated from Supras and fancy themselves as 40-something-men-about-town and it has always carried that slightly sad character for me - hence uncool.

Sorry.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Jan 2019 New Giulia Veloce Misano Blue
2008-15 New 159Ti experience: overwhelmingly positive. Reliable and fun over nearly 100k.
2015-18 147 1.6TS runaround
6/9/12 - 15 New Mito 135MA Distinctive - 100% reliable 37k

Supercar=uncool

Lotus = Loads of trouble jokes which are reeaally funny.

The owners will no doubt bore the **** off anyone who will listen with tales of flat plane cranks.

The original Esprit was cool, as was the Turbo because they didn't try to match the established supercars for power and pace.

Oh and I'd love one (again).

Gorgeous. It's on the list of possibilities for the V8-containing car which I will own at some point.

I think its cool, always had a soft spot for this car, I think the styling has longevity, I dont think its particular to any era and it sounds really good too. Which is important

I voted cool, but because it's an Esprit, not because it's the V8.

Much as I love V-configuration engines, I am told by those in the know that the V8-engined Esprits were best left alone.

On my list of cars to drive before I die. Loved these things since day 1. Don't care which style. don't care which engine. I just love em.
