Renault Clio V6 RS

Built for enthusiasts, this Clio is channeling the spirit of the Renault 5 Turbo. With its engine in the back and widened fenders, it doesn't resemble the garden variety version in any way besides the general shape of the car. The data and images are from the 2003 EVO II version.

Engine: L7X 60º V6
Displacement: 2,946 cc
Aspiration: Natural
Power: 255 bhp (190 kW) @ 7,150 rpm
Torque: 221.3 lb·ft @ 4,650 rpm
Configuration: Mid-engined, rear-wheel drive
Weight: 1,400 kilo (3,086 lbs)
0 - 60 mph: 6.3 seconds
Top speed: 146 mph (235 km/h)

Saab 9-3 Aero.

Its French, the interia is basic and the engine cover looks like a hospital bed pan, all these should make it uncool. However sod all its flaws, its one hell of a machine im voting cool.

another marmite car i think......

Its a Clio that's been on the steroids too much, reliability is a bit iffy as well....

however they make a great noise and are supposed to be a real hoot to drive

the upper end of cool, not quite sub zero though

My Nephew had one of these, and drove it like a lunatic. Didn't take him long to crash it either. Personally I thought it was an ugly looking thing, but it used to fly along, I can tell you that !!!!!........

Apparently the Clio is easy to roll.....

Nice performance.

Shame about the styling.

Great car but looks like the handiwork on a 17 year old with a Halfords discount card. Seriously uncool.

Fair point RSK.

I guess it's just that typical lament of quite a few of us on AO.

"If only AR could do something like this".

I still think Audi at the moment are leading the way in combining both performance and styling at a reasonable price.

The Audi TT RS and the S5....

Then again....different thread.

Try driving one Hughes and I think you might change your mind They are amazing fun and it's a testament to Renault's commitment to performance cars that a huge multi national like them would build such a crazy motor.

i agree 100%. but i also think it is a fantastic looking car too. this shape Clio was never a bad looking car anyway so for the V6 to come out looking like this with all its massive arches and air intakes gave it huge road presence and a kind of angry look that it can back up with its performance.

Absolutely mental car

But this is the cool wall not the "it's really good fun" wall or the "it was developed by really enthusiastic people" wall. I think it's a great car, nearly as good as the old Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 but to the casual observer it looks like the sort of thing you see trundling round every city centre in the country on a Friday night with an electric supercharger, fake dump valve and neonz (innit blud).

Because it would be a good looking car inside and out, in addition to being everything else the Renault is. This would make it cool, whereas the Renault isn't. The Renault's almost cool cos it's mid-engined and crayzee, but otherwise it's a chavvy-looking boring hatchback.

But Alfa's best driver's car and wackiest creation ever, the SZ, wasn't, isn't and never will be what you could call good looking, either inside or out. Precisely like the Renault, its thuggish looks conceal a sensual driving experience.

Both as cool as each other And the Renault is arguably more cool, because such a looney tunes car has come from comfy, 5 star NCAP, Papa & Nicole, cozy old, roly-poly Renault.

Cool for me.

A great little, mad, flawed plaything which delivers (so I recall reading!) a fun, if lairy, driving experience. Anyone who knows cars knows it is the real deal rather than a Ripspeed chav-mobile. All of which, I think, makes it cool.
