Among the ultimates. And conceived from one sole ideology.

To kick Ferrari's ****.

That alone makes it sub zero.

The rivalry between Shelby and Old Man Ferrari goes way, way back before the birth of the cobra

Here's the English AC Cobra version that started the ball rolling... (my cousin's car back in the 1960s, he's the one looking chuffed to bits next to it, and I guess that as the car is a B plate it must have been registered in 1963/4). Gorgeous indeed! [Update: this is by the way the Series II, 4.7 litre, and was the ex demo model for AC at the time, colour Vineyard Green, whatever that is!]

Now that is sub-zero (the car, not your cousin although of course he may be too, not to suggest that I have any particular preference... oh hell!).

Quick and brutal though the 427 may be, it's body shape just tries too hard.

Oh and while I'm at it, that's a Daimler SP250 parked next ot it - they went pretty well but looked pretty daft IMO.

Yep, it is indeed an SP250 Dart which he wanted me to chop out of the picture because it's all about him and the AC, not the Daimler And as I recall him telling me, the Cobra could eat the Dart for breakfast without even trying, which was a good thing because the last thing you wanted to do was drive behind a Dart looking at all that ugliness in front of you!!! I agree btw that the AC version is sub-cooler than the 427, but I wouldn't say no to either of them!

Utterly wonderful brute of a car. Cobras are fantastic iconic cars.

...unlike the SP250 which is so ugly it redefines cool! BTW, apart from looking like a sea monster, the SP250 was a highly respected sports car that went like the clappers but didn't survive the purchase of Daimler by Jaguar as it put it into direct competition with the E-Type. Now that's a cool car IMO!

Modernised with wider wheels and lowered suspension and all the frilly bits hacked off, and carefully photographed from one very specific angle, it can look quite good, as here on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Daimler-SP250-...item53de8479f7 but it's still not my cup of tea, especially for 25K!

Cool but only an original or an AC built car, kit car versions are about as cool as a warm bottle of pish.

One of my mates had a replica built by an ex jordan engineer for a while, most visceral and brutal car I've ever been in, within 5 minutes I was shaking uncontrollably from the adrenaline rush, and that was just going to the petrol station
