Peugeot 406 Coupe

Today's poll is about this gorgeous and elegant coupe designed by Pininfarina, who were in charge of Ferrari's style as well. Therefore, some could even argue that this is a "poor man's Ferrari". But, who cares when you're driving around in a work of art?

Engine: 60ļ V6

nice but uncool. when you consider that you could get a Fiat Coupe Turbo or an Alfa GTV 3.0 for similar money at the same time this was on sale.

i like em, the v6 sounds nice and goes pretty well, looks good, but nothing special, and over priced, the fiat coupe undercut it by a good few grand and looked and went better, cool but not sub-zero

I very nearly bought one of these before the 166. Being into French cars and the like...

Externally, it is a looker.

Interior is not so special, not much different to the 406 Saloon and Estate being used as taxis all over the place. The facelift D9 is a lot better than the D8. Looks much fresher but it's still nothing special, I do prefer the 166

There was a later V6 unit available with VVT and 210bhp on tap. I think they look best in blue (Polaris Blue) or Red (Scarlet Red), rather plain in Silver

I looked at 2 of these prior to purchasing my 156. They are much better looking in the flesh, both that I looked at were V6 in Green. Really roomy inside -a true 4-seater coupe- The V6 gives a good push if you give it heaps. I think I'd of brought one, apart from the one I was interested in (with a nice set of 17" feet and low profile rubber) blew steam when it was cold... and when it was hot.... and when you put your foot down...

Cool for sure. Very pretty, not an obvious choice and quite quick without shouting about it too much.

Bit of a pug fan here (although only their 1980's-90's stuff. Cetainly not the current gen)

The 406 coupe looks way better in the flesh than those piccies, and the 3.0 is no slouch.

Big, fast-ish, good looking and comparatively rare.

Undeniably cool.

Uncool.

Taken in isolation it has fairly clean, if now rather dated lines. But then you remember just how much it is like the horridly ordinary 406 saloon in almost all its key features bar the roof-line. The interior is truly horrible and I felt that when I went in a then-new model run by our GM a few years back. How could such a fleet based hack have any grip on coolness, I ask you?

For me it looks similar too but not as cool as the Calibra. I did vote cool though! For its age anyway.

I always thought it looked nice and elegant, but bland. Sort of a coupe for those that don't want to stand out from the crowd too much.

It doesn't come near a Fiat Coupe or Alfa GTV for visual impact, and is basically a saloon in a fancy frock (To quote Quentin Wilson)

Ok, but uncool.

Not an Alfa :-(

I had 406 Coupe, albeit a 2.0 16v model, before my 156 SW.

It was a good car, very reliable, looked great, practical (with the back seats folded down I managed to get 4 internal house doors in it), can't do that with 156 SW as it isn't long enough!

I agree its not the most exciting car around, it is a Peugeot after all! But it was styled by an Italian design house, and in my opinion that makes it COOL!

Bet if it had an Alfa grille and badge on it, there wouldn't be so much negativity about it, and how someone can say it looks like a ROVER is beyond me!

from a couple of angles it does look nice almost Ferrari-esq and you can see that in the designers attempt to combine some of the ferrari aspects with this.....

but those angles are in the minority on the who i have never like the Corporate front that the *06 range has had and the *07 range is getting worse

for me, uncool

Exactly right. Add an alfa grille and it would suddenly be the prettiest thing in the world
