Jaguar XJ220

Today we have the car that held the top speed record until it was blown away by the McLaren F1. It changed in several important issues from the prototype, especially in the engine, it went from a V12 to a turbocharged V6, which was plagued with turbo lag. Special thanks to Gilbertr14 and guiliasuper for the links with the photos and information.

Engine: TWR Rover Metro 6R4 V6
Displacement: 3,498 cc
Aspiration: Twin Garrett T3 Turbos
Power: 542 bhp (404.2 kW) @ 7,000 rpm
Torque: 475 lbft @ 4,500 rpm
Drive: Rear-wheel drive
Weight: 1,372 kg (3,025 lbs)
0 - 60 mph: 3.9 seconds
0 - 100 mph: 8.0 seconds
Top speed: 217 mph (349.2 km/h)

yeah super wide, super expensive, super cool, classic car, an the fact that 20yrs on it trounced a zonda c12 in a qtr mile, makes it sub zero

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx2_f...eature=related

also the early prototype with the v12, was 4wd

Was sub zero, until McLaren built the F1 and showed that a supercar didn't need to be big and heavy.

Still cool though.

aye but it was a very good weapon with 2 turbos, the engine was desinged by david wood, and used alot of bits from the cosworth dfv.

the emissions for the v12 were too high even then.

then tom walkinshaws team of men got hold of it for Jag..hmmmmmm esued

I recall the news stories when it was new where various people stumped up huge deposits expecting to buy the things and punt them on at a profit. As costs escalated it became apparent that this wouldn't happen, I seem to recall there were some legal battles where people tried to get out of the contract to buy one.

I think it's the Veyron of its time. Technically very impressive but utterly irrelevant. Too big, not remotely pretty. Eclipsed by the F40 in the purposeful stakes, eclipsed by the F1 in the ultimate supercar stakes.

Ties with the X-Type as the jag I like the least.

Oh and I think it's uncool.

Utterly pointless, way too big and obscenely expensive in its day.

Cool.

It isn't classically beautiful but it has some style and boatloads of presence. As Keithyboy says, it was the Veyron of its day for a while and garners some kudos for that too.

Uncool, never really been a fan. It doesn't do anything particularly right or wrong. It's just a bit.....drab.

Car I dreamed of owning when I was a kid, fueled by the game XJ220 on the Commodre Amiga.

I think the lines are beautiful, it's sinuous and sleak and lithe.

Sub Zero for me

Bernadene just took me for a ride
