Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Today we have a British classic. It sports a very stylish body and a hood that goes on forever. And it was very fast too, so the performance matched the body. Mojo not included.

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

i never really much cared for these when i were young, which aint all that long ago really. until i passed one on the motorway one day and i just thought wow, that is an unbelievably gorgeous car.

it doesnt matter really these days that you can get hot hatches or sports saloons that will run rings around it in terms of performance, this will always look better and it will look better at any speed. sub zero for me

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Interesting machine. Great engine, apart from timing chains tinkling away, carbon clutch thrust bearings wearing out. Poor synchro gearbox, early 3.8's spur toothed first gear, iirc. Had fun, with one, in the early seventies, as you may know. So, yeah, the old 'E' was pretty cool.:

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Undoubtedly cool at the time.

Now most likely to be driven by a very, very dull old man, wearing tweed. And most likely some sort of brimmed hat as well.

If you catch his attention he'll probably happily talk to you about the car. For ever. He'll probably show the recipets for every job ever carried out on the car. If he's ever allowed anyone else to touch it. In which case he'll tell you about all the work he's carried out on it y his own hand, and where he sourced the parts from, and how they don't make them like they used to.

Some cars are essentially cool, but heavily tarnished by their owners. This is one of them.

Uncool.

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Right, look even cooler when it rained with three on the go. Now ask me about the rear hub seals, or how to replace both top and bottom timing chains with the engine in situ? No, don't as I may not remember.

True, but it's people like that who keep these old cars alive.

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Guess that is so.: But, the idea was to have one as a 'Crumpet Catcher' when you were fit and able enough to sort both out!

Voted cool

Although I've never agreed with the styling of the thing,it is a cool car, just not for me.

Would rather have an Austin Healy 3000

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Needed a camera with a decent viewfinder, didn't we? But didn't really think about taking snaps much. Too busy driving with the top down, playing the Stones tapes, and going to Woodside Place Country Club. Any Herts. Hedgehogs of sufficient vintage remember that place, in the seventies?

Re: Jaguar E-Type Series 1

J.D. Classics do totally rebuilt versions which are fabulous, with all modern extras, and hugely upgraded, well just about everything you could upgrade, to make it an absolutely superb machine, safe, fast, and comfortable. 170mph or so? Price? Hmnn.:
