Tesla Roadster

This time we have an electric car with sports car performance. It is based on a modified Lotus Elise chassis. And since it's so silent, it apparently causes some problems for bicycle riders and pedestrians because they can't hear it coming.

Engine: 3-phase, 4-pole Electric Motor
Power: 248 bhp (185 kW) @ 8,000 rpm
Torque: 211 lb·ft
Redline: 13,500 rpm
Aspiration: Ahem, it's electric.
Configuration: Mid-engined, RWD
Weight: 1,134 kg (2,690 lbs)
Electric range: 244 miles (393 km/h)
0 - 60 mph: 4.7 seconds
0 - 100 mph: 12.7 seconds
Top speed: 130 mph (209 km/h)

Re: Tesla Roadster

electric cars arent cool, but this one is just cool i think. mainly because you dont have to charge it for 3 weeks just so you can go to the shops and it doesnt have a top speed of 12mph. plus, being based on an Elise, its a good looker

like i said though, JUST cool

Re: Tesla Roadster

I think that electric cars are cool, and POSSIBLY the way forward. This one goes to show you can have an electric car that goes like the clappers,

It's the way forward sadly, and alot of petrol heads are gonna be sad come 50 years when this sort of thing dominates the roads entirely.

Re: Tesla Roadster

Electric cars are not the answer.

The electricity has to be generated somewhere, and that generally involves fossil fuels or nuclear power that leaves waste that is dangerous for generations. Generation electricity to charge cars to make them move is also very inneficient.

Until technology can provide us a way of all of our electricity without any pollution/waste then it is very uncool.

Hydrogen cars are looking like the best answer so far.

But even that uses electricity to make the hydrogen.

I think they should build a big dam on the Thames or on the Severn. Fit big generators to it, then use that electricity soley for making hydrogen for cars.

That would be cool.

Re: Tesla Roadster

Cool, but only just right now.

The green credentials of individual combustion engines are more difficult to control than those of power stations, whatever the primary energy source. Power generation can be made more environmentally friendly - only the will (read financial incentive) to really put it into effect is lacking IMO.

I'll be sad to see the petrol ICE pass into history but I'll be dead by then anyway...

In Top Gear run out of batteries after 90Km, if I'm not wrong. Bad start...

Is that correct? I thought hydrogen was the most abundant element in the universe so you don't need electricity to make it. You might well use electricity in processing and delivering it so in that sense you are probably right.

Re: Tesla Roadster

Very cute I like it and it's a much better looking electric car than the ones that have come before it. I would buy it to help planet Earth out.

Hydrogen is the most common element, but because it is so reactive it is rarely found in pure form.

Electricity is needed to seperate the Hydrogen and oxygen from water.

Re: Tesla Roadster

It's cool, but heading in the wrong direction.

we need alternative fuel cars that are actually practical, that the man in the stree its actually going to look at as an alternative to his Mondeo, beemer etc. That means good range, half decent performance, and most important of all, family sized.

2 seaters based on performance models might catch they eye, but they're no suited to the majority of people.

So I'm sort of right. You need energy for processing rather than creating it. I realise now that is really what you were saying.
