Re: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

I know most people will go for sub zero here but i cant do it. It just scrapes through to being cool for me. It looks gorgeous, has the best noise of any car ever and, despite what our good friend Clarkson says, the handling isn't bad either. But i just dont see the point of it. Why make a supercar so that it isn't one? Why only give it 450bhp? Why make it so exclusive? If you're going to do that then go for broke and make it insane, otherwise it's just a pointless exercise. My boss' RS4 has equal power to this, although, admittedly, it doesn't look or sound nearly as good, but then it cost half too. I think this is where Alfa fail time and time again. They go all out on looks but always seem to fall short of the mark in making a car truly great. Take the Brera. Another fantastic looking car but then it falls short of everything else, and that's fine when the prices are competitive with similar marques, but not when you're asking over 100k. Making it exclusive does nothing but force Alfa to sell less of them. How many people with the financial capabilities to buy it never bothered because of the slim chances of actually bagging one? I like this car. I just dont see the point. Still cool, if only for aesthetic reasons.

Re: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

0-100mph in 9.3 is too slow? Have you guys ever actually been in a car with that level of performance?
I would also argue its a GT car, rather than an all out supercar - hence the softer set up.
For me its second only to the Miura in the styling department, goes like a rocket, extremely rare, sounds fantasic, racing heritage, cool badge, I could go on and on. Its Sub Zero by a mile

This car has a soul, a SOUL! Something the Audi can only dream of.

Re: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

I voted cool.. If it was a production Alfa I could buy if I had the money rather than a limited-run marketing exercise Maserati that'll sit in a collection, it'd be sub-zero. I used a similar argument on some old Abarth rarity on here recently, so fair's fair.

And remember reading the press release stuff before the car's launch, where they kept going on about how "We must underline that Alfa Romeo chose rear-wheel drive on the 8c Competizione to support the exuberant engine and to deliver truly unbeatable emotions."?
Points off for that. If they chose front wheel drive,
1. they'd have had to engineer it themselves
2. they'd have been a laughing stock!

Re: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

I'm with the other "cool" outcasts. Kristen Scott Thomas would think it a bit garish

As others have said - too much form and not enough substance. I get the feeling Alfa had completely blown the budget before they'd finished sorting the dynamics!

Re: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

Well, I am going to be own my own here but I don't think it is Sub Zero.

Like most current Ferraris, it is too wide, and too big. Alfa have taken the shape and stying cues from a much smaller car and applied them to a Supercar and for that reason I think its a compromised shape dominated by oversized wheels.

Still cool though, cos otherwise its super desirable.
