Toyota Hilux 3.0L D-4D

A 4WD pickup from Japan. The 3 liter diesel engine comes only with the Double Cab version, and it's only made for 4WD, not RWD.

Engine: 3 liter diesel
Power: 171 bhp
Torque: 360 Nm between 1,400 and 3,400 rpm
Top speed: 170 km/h for the manual transmission and 175 km/h for the auto

Re: Toyota Hilux 3.0L D-4D

On a personal note. I HATE these pickups, I hate them, hate them, hate them with a passion. It was a pain making this poll. In my country, they are the prime choice (together with the Mitsubishi L200) of bodyguards and drug dealers. It's common to see them with completely blacked out windows and every aftermarket piece of aftermarket crap they can tack onto it.

Ugh...

I voted uncool, they are used by builders after all. They must have a lot of drugs to warrant a pickup

Re: Toyota Hilux 3.0L D-4D

Everyone has seen the Top Gear experiment to try and kill one of these things, and although i think that most of that was staged so that the Toyota would survive, there was no denying the strength of the beast as it made its way to the north pole. Ok, so it had been fairly heavily modified for the trip but nonetheless it made it so hat off to it for that. And in that sense these vehicles are cool. Used on the road as anything other than a horse to move around heavy equipment into dangerous and inhospitable places then the slider moves way down the scale, however. Failing that, you could always take one to Bristol and drive with your eyes shut.

Re: Toyota Hilux 3.0L D-4D

Cool. Not on my road obscuring vision and taking up parking space though thank you.

But as vehicles in the right place seriously cool. Clarkson, Hammond and May going to the north pole in one? Utterly cool.

I don't know....I seem to be viewing them in much the same light as Unimogs.....

Ah yeah did Company Car Tax regulations bring us the delights of loads of Crew Cabs.......

Another piece of taxation that seems out of kilter with supposed 'the end is night' climate change hysteria...

Re: Toyota Hilux 3.0L D-4D

These Hiluxes are now massive and I see them more often as bling shiney macho man status symbol toys rather than work vehicles.
That combined with charming grey Toyota interior and D-for-Diesel engine makes this seriously uncool as a private car. As a work vehicle it would rate neutral.

I am assuming you are refering to the Maloo???

We are very law abiding in OZ....the Police may be armed but not many of the citizenry.......we even name certain Holden drivers, 'Hoons' , in honour of your Secretary of Transport.....
I really think you are confusing us with those deranged gun toting Yanks

Also keep the roof up on your spider otherwise a HOON Maloo driver will fill it full of rubber dust

Uncool.

However, the older version as almost destroyed on Top Gear a few years back had a certain character.

I think I am going that way myself what with Labour's unnerving Control Freak tendencies and making up what constitutes democracy as they go along. That had the Climate Change, but overlook all those open cast coal mines we're approving, Eye wash!
