Re: Toyota 2000GT

is this not an early example of blatant japanese cloning? quite clearly this wants to be a Jaguar E-Type!

im not saying its a bad car (though it may well be) nor is it ugly but its trying to be something else and that makes it uncool.

Re: Toyota 2000GT

Seriously cool.

Even Better as an open top.

For all you who mentioned that it looks like an e type,
Go research the ferraris of the late 60's. All influenced by the E-Type when Enzo Ferrari saw one.

Re: Toyota 2000GT

V. pretty, and actually a bit earlier than the 70's as they pre-date it's more famous japanese 'cousin' the 240Z, when they appeared in the mid 60's

And a here's a couple of shots of the soft-top at this years Goodwood FOS, nice

Re: Toyota 2000GT

Its the lights either side of the grill that spoil it. Oh and generally being a copy of an E-Type. But its still cool IMO.

I like it,it's very unusual
E-Type's are a bit common at classic meets.

Cool, doesn't look all that good from the front otherwise it would have been sub-zero.

Re: Toyota 2000GT

Only having 351 produced does not a cool car make i'm afraid. Neither does a hefty price tag. Yet another example of style being dictated by the thickness of people's wallets.

Not sure thats the whole story. They were, I think, regarded as excellent drivers cars (in an Elan like way), and are owned by genuine enthusiasts of the model. No doubt though that US and Japanese collectors have pushed them to crazy prices now.

Too rich for my blood - thats for sure.

Re: Toyota 2000GT

Definitely cool.

These are finely engineered pieces not the agricultural hacks knocked out as sports cars by many "respected" manufacturers at the time.
Very few left and as said earlier, they have a passionate and enthusiastic following by proper car buffs even if they do have a high value.

Also used as a Bond getaway car in You Only Live Twice which was probably pretty cool at the time too.

C'mon even Toyota themselves had to make up a new brand
to try and shed their Corolla/Camry/HiLux image.
