DeLorean DMC-12

Well, we all know it thanks to Back to the Future. But here it is in its original condition, not "modified" to look like a time machine. A little trivia, how much power did it need to travel in time??

Layout: Rear engine, RWD
Engine: 2.8L V6
Power: 130 bhp @ 5,500 rpm in North America specs (the European version had 200 bhp)
Torque: 153 lb·ft @ 2,750 rpm
Acceleration from 0-60 mph: 9.6 seconds
Top speed: 130 mph
Designer: Giugiaro
Optional equipment: Flux capacitor and Mr. Fusion

Re: DeLorean DMC-12

130BHP from a 2.8 V6 isn't bad considering it's a 25+ year old design.

Sub Zero in my book, absolutely love 'em,

I'm certain they wouldn't hit 88MPH though, let alone 130MPH,

Re: DeLorean DMC-12

I'm sure I read somewhere that they're remaking the DeLorean some where in USA, that is assembling new cars from the parts left over from the 1980's

A rubbish car designed with grand plans, high hopes and aspirations (not unlike many an Alfa Romeo ), made iconic by an almost classic (if not classy or critically acclaimed) film full of good-enough-for-the-job actors.
Cool, but not sub-zero because my 33 would leave it behind.

Re: DeLorean DMC-12

Isn't this a rear-engine design?(not mid-engine)...and i believe that the engine was more powerful then 130BHP but there were some production problems or something.

cool car(cool story behind it). I am sure that there is a film about it...about Delorian that is

I think Peter's right, the engine in the picture sits at the back...

Junk. If it wasn't for back to the future then it would have been seriously uncool.

Doc was just about watchable for the first few minutes and then he becomes annoying. M J Fox could never act in anything and so just runs around and falls over while screaming like a girl. Biff? I have never seen a less convincing bully in all my life. Seeing mother and son almost get it on was a step too far. He attempts to 'rock' at the school prom with a song so un-rock-like it made my toes curl, while protesting that their kids will love it...err...not likely mate. All in all, a total waste of a couple of hours.

Re: DeLorean DMC-12

Rubbish? Cool? It had a Renault engine but a Lotus-engineered chassis. It had gullwings but was styled with a set square. It was aimed at Americans but made in Ireland. Can't think why it never took off. Still, it's got a great back story.
I hire classic cars out and have always mulled over adding one of these to the fleet. Like the car, undecided.

Re: DeLorean DMC-12

Stainless body, gull-wings, dodgy cocaine deals gone bad.
A recipe for the coolest of cars. But......

Uncool: Due to the film.

Re: DeLorean DMC-12

Power needed for time travel - 1.21 gigawatts. Cool film if you don't take it too seriously. Cool car for the same reasons.
