A Gitanes is rather like smoking the track asphalt.

It's a far cry from the current JS50 wheeled coffin for
banned drunks and underage drivers.

Or is it ... ?

Seriously uncool. The last cool F1 car was the Maserati 250F!

This has always been my favourite F1 car of all time, I've even got a 1/12 model kit of this car that was produced by the French company Heller, if it wasn't for a lot of bad luck (Patrick Depailler breaking both legs in a hang gliding accident after being equal first in the 1979 championship tying with Gilles Villeneuve and numerous punctures that year for both him and Jacques Laffite) this car would have easily won the constructors championship and maybe the drivers as well in 1979 / 1980

100% agree. We tend to forget all the little twists and turns of a season. Astonishing that a top F1 driver could wreck his feet, best chance of an F1 title, and his career after going hang gliding mid-season. I remember it well.

He died the following year, I think, in an Alfa.

Cool, but not as cool as the more innovative cars such as the 6 wheeled Tyrrell, Brabham-Alfa Fan car, Lotus 79 etc.

There's a difference between innovation and something else.

Just watched the 2018 Monaco historic Grand Prix on Quest channel, there was a Ligier JS11 (ex Didier Pironi) and it looked great wizzing around the principality, shame about the Lotus 78 driver though, he binned it going into a corner and the whole front end was demolished, where do you get spares for a forty year old formula one car ?
