Before turning to Alfa I had a selection of SAABs - 99, 99 EMS, 99 Turbo and 900 Turbo.

My favourite was the 99 Turbo. The engineering was superb - vastly overdone - the CV joints were works of art to look at and twice the size and weight of any I've seen. I replaced the engine in mine (very easy to do with basic tools) and ended up using the old camshafts as candlesticks.

Only 145 BHP but it sounded great on full song (even though SAAB tried and failed to quieten the turbo).

My favourite car after the Spider.

I do like but I'd need some serious persuasion that it's cool.

Very nice. Probably the best looking car, Volvo P1800 aside, to come out of Norsk side.

Also my Aunt and Uncle purchased one after they had a Renault 4.

The 99s had no GM influence at the time IIRC. In fact the earlier 99s had a Triumph Dolomite 1854 engine. It was the later 9-3 that had the [grim] Vauxhall influence.
