I work on the basis that if I were making these sort of things, I'd try to make it as unappealing as possible to the sort of people who might buy an Audi.

Cool for me. I could see myself living with this.

401bhp, 5.6sec 0-62mph, 140mph, 134.5mpg and 49g/km CO2…etc.

I expect that, being a Volvo, it's very good at doing all the things you need a car to do. I don't expect that bits will drop off it and it will last for a very long time without ever getting really creaky. But this isn't the good wall, the useful wall, or the well-made wall and I don't see how a Volvo 4x4 can be cool. It's not uncool, and it's not meh so I'm going to abstain from voting to see if I can be won over.

As KB says it will tick many boxes; well made, Fast enough, economical enough, not bad looking, carry enough, technically good with the hybrid... but it's not going to be cool... it's not uncool either tho...

I think cool would be a stretch. I like it quite a lot though.

I reckon that should have a (claimed) after it. It being a hybrid, it no doubt needs the perfect combination of circumstances to achieve that.

Slightly less uncool than other cars in this class simply because it's a Volvo and nobody really expects them to be beautiful, dynamic masterpieces: rather they look for well made, practical and reliable cars. Must admit I rather like the interiors on modern Volvos.

No SUV can ever be cool. The only cool 4x4s are Defenders, Willys Jeeps and Integrales.

So, an Integrale is cool, but a Lambo/Porsche/Bentley/Bugatti is not

Wouldn't say cool but uncool too harsh. Hard one to choose.

Not a fan of 4x4s mostly. Uncool IMO, but not seriously so.

It's a given that SUV's are uncool. Absolutely. But this is a bit unusual. If you want a stylish, rather elegant, large car that oozes Scandinavian sophistication and a bit of individuality compared to the monotonous Teutonic mainstream or inevitable RR bling then you really can't go far wrong with this. Coolness is little to do with performance and in this case its low CO2 and economical hybrid unit flies in the face of the usual anti-environmental smoggy mainstream diesel SUV's image. And it's not playing at being a really, really big sports car like the Cayenne. It's a big, practical and luxurious family car.

It got me thinking that this is as close to a cool SUV I've seen when I was reading up on it recently. I even quite like it myself - which is, of course no indication of it being cool whatsoever - but it had that effect which is a bit of a shock to me. Very unusual, in fact.

In truth, it sits close to the edge of both cool and uncool, precariously on the fence. One last glance at the picture has me nodding and thinking that'd be a great family car for MrsJim if we could only afford it after a Giulia QV (which we also can't afford ) As such, and as I'm in a generous mood, I think it is just about cool. And for any SUV that makes it pretty unusual.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Yep. There's a whiff of vulgarity about Lambos and Porsches (the 959 is a possible exception), and more than a whiff about Bentleys and Bugattis. No matter how good they are as machines you would inevitably be considered a bit of a tw*t by Joe Public if you drive one.

Defenders and Jeeps avoid that by being utterly utilitarian and the Integrale looks like a shopping car with a steroid habit. They are also old enough to be driving legends.

Office Chair.

It's an uncool new SUV. It'll probably only become cool when we only have electric autonomous cars.

My opinion to a tee, it's a nice car don't get me wrong but couldn't use the word cool or uncool to describe a car that's good. It's a pretty bland car that you just know is mostly (not in all cases so please don't get offended) driven by people in suits that go to work go home sleep go to work go home and sleep...you get the drift. Bit of a boring car but certainly not uncool even if the target audience for the car is
