2006 MINI Cooper S JCW GP

Utterly ridiculous, stupidly impractical, very powerful little stripped out pocket rocket with a rather over the top price tag

1.6 supercharged 4 pot with 218bhp. Big brakes, lowered and stiffened suspension, added aero

Completely needless, yet somehow I need one

If you're going to say 'bugger practicality' I think you can do better than a 218bhp Mini.

I think they have exhausted the design language of the mini

Probably this.

Plus BMW haven't made a pick up, which BMC / Leyland did with the original.

Uncool. Quite apart from Gaz wanting one, which can't help.

Minis are just too self-consciously fashion items, too over priced, too common. And while this is a sportier version it just still smacks of trying too hard and being another BMW niche-mobile.

It could be said the same for Fiat 500's.

Loved the original Mini in its different guises, I used to own a 1275GT. It seems the Germans have taken the design too off-piste. The worst of all was the cabriolet they released a few years ago. Dreadful looking.

@EP: Has the Mini Moke been covered on here?

A 1275 GT was my first car, it was in a beautiful light metallic blue.

Just to note, the first New Mini was mainly British designed. I think it did have a Pigot engine but it was all done here.
Rover fought tooth and nail with BMW too keep it British owned when they split. BMW obviously knew it's worth.

As much as the BMW Mini is everywhere and there are far too many body variations to keep track of, no one can fault BMWs delivery and exploitation of a bit of modernised British nostalgia. Beneath the image issues and over popularity, the Mini is actually a hoot to drive

nah - I couldn't get away with being associated with the bell ends who drive this. Also the steering whine always makes me turn around and wonder what's wrong. It's the only car I can identify parking with a blindfold.

You need the blindfold because it is such a bleedin ugly abomination.

I live and work pretty close to the Mini factory, so get to see loads of them. They are never cool, and most of them seem to be agressively driven by idiots.

The ultimate fashion victim's express for the hairdresser/beautician/ air stewardess in a hurry.

Probably brilliant fun, but utterly hideous.

Cool car despite the fact that its stablemates enjoy a mixed image.

This is a properly track focussed stripped out, brilliantly driving, limited production little rocket missing seats and all.

It's coolness is enhanced by the fact that 99% of folk don't actually know what it is and make the assumptions seen on this very thread !
