This was a Sunny over here. This particular variant was a homologation special produced between 1990-94 in order to qualify entrance to WRC Group A.

Serious kit at the time. Turbo 2.0 litre giving 227 bhp and 210 lb ft of twisty. 4x4 as standard. It could do 0-60 in 5 summat seconds on the way to the shops.

stonky! :tum:

Interesting, but not cool.

And, like many cars of the type and approximate age, it's pretty much impossible to find one that hasn't been utterly molested now anyway.

Original condition: meh
Barried: Seriously uncool

Shouldn't meh appear on your poll between cool and uncool, rather than at the bottom?

The train :(

Engine - cool.
The rest - seriously uncool.

If I was going to have a hot engine in a naff looking car, I'd stick a V6 / V8 in an Austin Ambassador (it's definitely a dream of mine!).

I'm also in the "interesting but uncool" camp.

The rallying link and performance lend it that. The looks and base vehicle are enough to push well away from troubling coolness.

Looks just like a car we rented in NZ many years ago. The bloke did say she was a honey. And that was without a power bulge.

Not cool - has anyone put an Alfa Arna up for the vote yet out of interest?

I like the concept, small 4WD steaming hatch, but the finished product is somewhat embarrassing

Shame really

Let's try and remember what Alfa was trying to flog in the same segment in 1990, guys.

A warmed over, rehashed version of the 1971 Alfasud. Series 2 Alfa 33 with 1.7 and 130 something bhp.

Arguably (slightly) prettier, but not playing remotely the same game.

Not sure how that influences our thinking on the Pulsar, Steve.

If we do set it against competitors then, more reasonably I'd suggest, is to consider the other Group A homologation specials it ran against such as the Integrale, Celica GT-Four, Evo and Scooby, even the Mazda 323 thingy etc?

Still makes it uncool.

When I was a youngster, I very nearly bought a Pulsar. I test drove a few and it was manic and a huge amount of fun. BUT, even as a hot headed 20 something year old who loved spoilers, wide wheels and big zorsts, I couldn't do it. I ended up with a Nissan 200sx instead, which wasn't as fast as standard, but with a few trick parts courtesy of Norris Designs provided all the power my skill levels could control (being RWD with significant turbo lag and zero safety systems.) The Pulsar just didn't do it for me in the looks compartment and the standard Sunny (which my mum had) was such a bland car.

Uncool.

Silver 156 GTA SW, Q2, Koni FSD's, Eibach springs and anti-roll bars, CDA induction, re-map, Wizard/Pud exhaust - fantastic!

My brother in law actually had a 323 turbo. The 'sleeper' element was somewhat ruined by the exhaust you could fit your fist down.
