Suburu Levorg

The Boxer engine used in the Levorg places the pistons horizontally across the engine bay, punching away from each other. There’s less vibration. And power delivery is smoother. As the engine weight can sit lower, the vehicle handles better. Optimising the power delivery to individual wheels creates the best possible grip. With permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the Levorg keeps you safe on the road – and off it.

Definitely not pretty, but it's no B9 Tribeca

It's a Subaru, it's bound to be good

It's a Subaru and so it's bound to be ugly on the inside too.

It's basically an estate version of the WRX with a slightly different face.

Not sure why they call it Grovel. Apparently it's "LEgacy, reVOlution, touRinG", but that makes about as much sense as saying that Orange stands for tOuR AssociatioN of GrEenwich.

Meh!

Is it a design Kia rejected for the Sedona facelift?

Horrendously uncool. Plumbing new depths for lacking coolness even for an SUV.

And that name! Left me thinking I needed a large Laiphroaig.

It's not an SUV. It's an estate. Proper old-school estate instead of a jumped-up hatchback.

Also, it's a WRX - a giant killer - underneath, at least with the 2.0 turbo engine, not the 1.6. So in 2.0 guise it'll go like the clappers.

This makes it cool. It would be the ultimate sleeper if it didnt have the top mounted intercooler scoop on the bonnet.

Why not?

http://isthat.info/uploads/subaru/su...a-wagon-04.jpg

Subaru USA sales figures for Impreza (that I could find quickly and easily):

2000: Impreza 4door 5 216, wagon 10 428
2001: Impreza 4door 16 478, wagon 17 679
2002: Impreza 4door 18 226, wagon 19 987

Or compare the Legacy (4-door sedan) and Outback (wagon version of the Legacy) in the US since 2007:

2007: Legacy 22 159, Outback 56 078
2008: Legacy 22 614, Outback 44 262
2009: Legacy 30 974, Outback 55 356
2010: Legacy 38 725, Outback 93 148
2011: Legacy 42 401, Outback 104 405
2012: Legacy 47 127, Outback 117 553
2013: Legacy 42 291, Outback 118 049
2014: Legacy 52 270, Outback 138 790
2015: Legacy 60 447, Outback 152 294

So the wagon outsells the sedan by a big and growing margin, but Subaru "shouldn't be making" a wagon?

The strange thing is, they do not actually sell the Levorg (still a stupid name!) in the US. Only reason why I can think it can be is that they don't want the Levorg to compete for sales with the Outback.

I have to say that, whilst I consider the Impreza to be a low rent drug dealer special, I like the Outback a lot. The only thing that puts me off is the frequency of bottom end failures on the boxer motor. This, on the other hand, is very ugly and has a stupid name. It's uncool for that reason.

Not at all, just that thing looks atrocious and like a sort of half way house between a wagon and an MPV

That angle doesn't really flatter it.

The Levorg is 1490 mm tall. The Giulia AWD is 1450 mm tall. So the Levorg is only 4 centimetres taller. How that makes it an MPV I don't understand.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the WRX and Levorg:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b...org_vs_WRX.jpg

Not trying to say the Levorg is a beautiful motor - it's not. But it's not horrible-looking. It's just a proper old-school wagon.

Yes, stupid for the Japanese to use Japanese words to name things! How dare they be so parochial. They should give universal names, like Austin or Triumph or Rover or Jaguar. Words that are universal to all languages!

I think I may have just seen one of these. In the metal it looked ok, clearly very Subaruish. Still not cool but I'd have one as dog/family transport.
