From the Renault era at Jeep, before it was sold to Chrysler. Looks a bit Volvo ..

Square headlight Jeeps never looked right.
Just look at the original Wrangler.

Never driven one or been in one, so on looks alone, just no, no and no. And another no, should there be any doubt about the what the first three nos meant.

No, again.

(Better safe than sorry )

I think non-faux off roaders are generally quite cool.

The new original looked like a steroid-abusing
Volvo estate.

Volvo and Renault had a plan to merge until 1993. This could've been the XC back then, until AMC was sold to Chrysler.

Office Chair.

I have two mates (surprising I know) that have Cherokee's. Two mates who do not know one another.
Anyway one has 2009 V6 Diesel which is nice. The other has a 2001/2 (like this anyway) with a lifted suspension. Before the suspension was lifted he took me serious off-roading and it/him were seriously good.

A bit cool I think.

first unibody Jeep.

I voted seriously uncool, partly because I think it's boxy and ugly, and partly because I live in London where people have big 4x4s for the school run and to bump and scrape other cars when they attempt to park. The only time they off-road is at Sainsbury's car park.
If you have one to off-road or deal with muddy tracks, that's cool - but the car still isn't - it's at best practical.

Wrong SUV to take a pop at for size. Smaller than the 159 Spurtwagon.

You can see styling mastery from a man who worked on the Pacer.

Yes, if you ignore the height and weight .......and the fact that the 159 was about 20 years later by which time all cars had increased in size in relation to their predecessors.

Anyway, I take your point, it's less uncool than more recent and mahoosive SUVs..

Weren't these "must have" for upwardly thrusting middle class couples in the late 80's/early 90's? How uncool is that?

I'm quite prepared to believe they were better than half decent off road, but then the functionality or performance is an irrelevant sideshow here on the cool wall.

That leaves us with a bland, borderline ugly plain Jane of a boxy estate-cum-off-roader. Uncool sorry.

The old Jeep Waggoneer, on the other hand, is quite cool now.
