Cruddy interior plastics

The plasticy grab handles and integrated window switches in my 04 plate 147 are not looking great. It is as if they were laquered and some of it is degrading in patches. I have no idea if they ever were laquered so reluctant to do too much at this stage, not wanting to make things worse. Is this cruddiness just a build up of dirt or a breakdown of some sort of protective coating? Ideally I would like to get these plastics looking pristine so hoping to get some advise, thanks.

I've heard that people have used the rubberised plastidip spray, is what I plan to do with mine at some point.
