Well Happy Just ordered a Megs DA kit from Elite

GTleigh & I have gone halves and two of our AROC buddies might want in too.

The plan is to get Leigh's Brera & our GT mint before we head to Milan in 4 weeks time.

What do you reckon to this?

Does it contain the necessary to get rid of light swirls?

Would SRP applied by machine have enough grunt?

Also ordered some 3.5 inch

Any advice welcomed

Cheers,

Looks fancy!!

I had some fairly bad scratches on my GT which I managed to near as damn it remove using SRP with a crap buffer.

I imagine a better buffer and more time spent would of completely removed them (part is still slightly visible, but thats probably because I know they're there).

SRP will hide light swirls but not remove them. 83 and 80 will remove them permanently

Be aware that 3.5 inch pads are more aggressive on the DA (the opposite is true with rotaries) but you're still very unlikely to do any damage.

Excuse my ignorance, but whats 83 and 80??

Are they very abbrasive to remove the scratches??

I envy the fact you have someone to 'chip in' to the cost of the equipment!! If I suggested this to any of my friends I'd no doubt be laughed at. lol.

As always, I'll be expecting an honest review about the product SR

Meguires #83 is a 6 on the cuting scale
Meguires #80 is a 4 (i think )
SRP is about 0.5

They're both pretty good Da polishes but 83 is a bit dusty when you use it with a rotary but it's cut is a nice balance of strong cut & safe and #80 finishes down well.

As we are polishing out the swirls will we need to "clay" after washing?

They'll do the job fine, it's mostly down to your own technique in handling the polisher. Just take time to read all the label instructions regarding mop speeds, passes, overlaps etc. If you are not too far away I'd happily lend you some ultrafina which is beyond belief at removing holograms. I'd be happy to guide you through all the application of the other compounds too.

Go for it mate! Just been looking on cyc.co.uk and its £199.99 on there so your getting a good deal! I always see the 2 Megs polishes popping up so they both must be very good. Ive got Megs#205 but havnt had the chance to use it yet. One thing i would say is you might want to look into getting some spot pads (75mm) for the tighter areas like around the number plate or headlight lenses etc. I dont think Megs do them but i have 3M ones aswell as the larger pads. My pads are only 6" aswell so you'll find them especially usefull with those 7" mamas!
EDIT, sorry with regards to the spotpad mention, ive pasted this answer from my BBQ thread. I think the Megs kit is straight forward and not confusing like some of the other brands. I bet the new HD Cleanse would go on a treat with the DA after correction.
My friends had my G220 for ages now and is in his words on another forum 'attackin' his BMW at the minute! I expect it back dead I bought the Menz pads with my car of the month winnings on cyc a while back but nearly died when i felt how hard they were! My mate is using them on said BM and ive asked him if he wants to buy them as i fancy the CG Hexi Logic pads. Its alll a bit confusing getting pads but the Megs ones look great. I know theres a lad on here who posted pics of his 156 (i think) corrected with the same Megs polishes and it was amazing! In the pics there were reflections of his perspex shelter in the bonnet. MAybe someone can remember it?? Im sure others will give you more guidance as im a novice. All i know is the Squaddron will look unreal! Oh and this 'bible' might just help abit! Machine Polishing by Dual Action Polisher - Full Guide - Detailing World
Its a guide by DaveKG off DW and its awesome help. You can dl it in PDF format. I still havnt got round to buying a bonnet for practicing on! Oh Leigh, most people would clay before.

Cheers

Just watched the 48 minute Megs video tutorial via DW & already feel confident

Will SRP be the same as their swirl free polish

It's the final step before waxing.....

No they're not the same, swirl free is just a tiny but less aggressive that #80, it's a 3 on the cutting scale iirc. If you really want an excellent finishing polish buy Menzerna PO85RD. Personnally I find #80 finishes well on the DA because they don't leave holograms like the rotary does.

Ta, so could we go from 80 to SRP to HD Wax & get good results?

Trying to keep costs down and use what we have / have just bought is all

Yes, but I don't think using SRP will be neccesary since you will have removed all of the swirls with the DA. These older megs polishes will leave an oily film so you won't need a paint cleaner or glaze if you're waxing afterwards, sealents are more fussy.

Give your pad a spritz with QD first before starting in general.

SR, Try #80 first, you will be suprised how well it deals with swirls and the finish it leaves is super wet. It is also LSP ready so just chuck the AG HD straight on top. If you follow #80 with SRP you will remove the glazing oils left behind by #80 which give the lovely wet finish.

I've never had a problem chucking the wax straight on top of #80.

Beware though it takes a bit of practice to get to grips with the DA and how long the polishes need to be worked for. The Megs combo need about 5 mins per pass to get the best out of them.

Did Leigh's Brera today. All swirls gone but some of the drying blade scratches he's picked up at the "handjob" sites remain.

Think we need to get Megs #84 for the GT.

Routine was wash, 83, 80, SRP (to try & mask the worst of the marks) then HD Wax. It looks cracking

Leigh will prob post pics soon

GT tomorrow

Very nice. Not sure why you used SRP after 83/80 combo. The key is to do test spots to see what pad/polish combo is needed to get the swirls out, starting with the lightest cut pad/polish. Once you have the correct pad and polish setup, do the rest of the car.

The speed glaze should be the last product before the LSP imo. If the swirls are still there after you have hit it with 83 and 80, you might need to look at your technique and possibly just do an extra pass with the 83.

However, the fun is in experimenting to get the best results.

We've worked well as a team. Leigh did the bulk of the machining and I did the HD'ing. We both finished it off

Shattered now and on the strong pain pills

Again, swirls have gone but deeper scratches (like wash blade scratches) can still be seen close up

We also took the wheels off, repainted the rear callipers and put the script stickers back on the recently powder coated fronts

Just need to get the minor door dings removed and the engine loom replaced and it's good to go to Italy

Three weeks today

Looking great guys

I was looking at buying that kit too some time ago, I wish i had, In fact, I'm getting tempted again

also, Menzerna PO85RD is heavily used by professionals, and comes highly recommended on DW site, might be worth looking (as someone has already mentioned) i don't think AG can compete at this level though

The whole Menzerna range is fantastic when used with the rotary (the wax based lubricants resists drying out more than the normal stuff) but the Megs range is fine with the DA..... Saying that PO85RD is my favourite finishing polish

I am expecting AG to bring out some machine polishes soon, the (relatively) recent releases of HD Cleanse & wax are all polinting to a more professional range of products for paint correction. If their current products are anything to go by these will be very good
