Hi All

Can you recommend a good product for cleaning the plastic work ( dashboard etc. ) in my 2001 Alfa 156.

It's not been done in a while - and what I want to avoid is anything that will just loosen all the grime and just smear it around.

The car is in good cosmetic condition and it could just do with a freshen up.

Thanks all

I tried using that dashboard cleaning stuff on mine but found it useless on ingrained dirt. As you suggest it just displaced it rather than cleaned it.

A dab of fairy liquid in some warm water does a good job though, followed by some Mr Sheen (seriously)!

That is my way of thinking Mital - that most of these so called specialist car cleaning products are just so much overpriced hogwash....but I stand to be corrected

Use one of those sponges with the green scourer bit on one side. The fibres will get into the grain and hoist out the grime. Depending how bad it is, some Fairy Liquid in water would do the job.

Once it's dry, give it a quick squirt of dash cleaner (actually "dash-shine") to put some protective sauce back on the plastic.

Stay away from anything that adds shine to your dash. You'll just see your dash reflected in your windscreen and not see out clearly.

in the past all i have done is cleaned with some car shampoo and then every time the car is washed i wipe the dashtop with a damp microfibre cloth....

doesn't make it shine but does ensure it is nice and clean
