Detailer in Cheshire

Can anyone recommend a detailer in the Cheshire area?

I'm half considering setting up with one of these types who do a car care plan, along the lines of this guy:
Leeway Mobile Valeting

But thought I might as well see if there's anyone who others have used.

The GTA's paintwork is in generally good condition, and it looks fantastic and shiny when clean, but if the light hits it a particular way, there are a lot of swirls on there. I'm not confident of getting rid of them myself without cocking it up, so I'm toying with the idea of hiring someone to sort them and keep them sorted - if I can find someone good, and sort out a price which isn't too breath-taking.

Hi,

I would recommend a chap called Iain who runs a company called Finer Details. His number is 07870 503197. Tell him I sent you and he will look after you.

Cheers,

Roy

Cheers, but I reckon both of those are just too far away to be usable.

Have a look at the traders over on Detailingworld.co.uk
You'll get loads of recommendations there.

Turns out I might be wrong. Scott at OCD has said he's willing to sort me out and not pay mileage, despite coming all the way from Bolton I think. Nice one Scott

Thinking I might try to get this done just before NAD.

Make sure you get some good 50/50 shots. A before and after doesn't really give you that "WOW" comparison. Did some paint correction on mine a few weeks back. For a first timer, not bad results. Will be doing it again in a few weeks with a more aggressive pad/polish combo.

Before?

... he's already started

He walked around it with what, to my paranoid eye, was a very critical air. I could just see him thinking "He said this was in good condition? It's a WRECK!"

What sort of money does this kind of service cost, just out of interest?

Without wishing to hijack the thread, are these the kind of people we should turn to to deal with stone chips, the dealer, just use one of those stick things or go to a paint shop? My Ti has a few - not really bad yet - on the leading edges and I've been pondering the best solution.

Not these guys for stone chips and the like. If you can feel a scratch with your nail, it's too deep for a detailer, and you need a bodyshop or SMART repairer.

What the detailer can do, and the reason I'm paying what ius a lot of money, is to get rid of light scratching, swirls and the like.

And the cost? I still think I'm mad to be honest: 325. That's for the whole lot, inside, outside, and under bonnet.

But if it does get rid of the swirling, which does annoy me, then it'll be something I can keep like that with wax for a long long time.

OK, he did a test patch for me, so I can do a kind of before and after, side by side.

Except this isn't quite 'after', there will be more done.

Before:

After:

Bearing in mind that the thing which depressed me when I caught sight of it, and most made me want to do this was the 'halo' effect of swirling patterns if you ever looked into the reflection of a light source, I'm very, very pleased with that.
Can't wait to see the finished article - although that won't happen until about 8pm (he started at 8am!)

Actually, that before picture does show the border between done and not done. The cut-off point in the swirling is amazing.

Some final pics, but not many because there were a few spots of rain and I panicked and shoved it in the garage

Very shiny.

Also done the engine bay, which I forgot to take pics of, but which looks excellent. And the windscreen scuttle panel is now black again! I thought it would have to be replaced to fix the greyness.

Not the interior though, as it turned out to be a bigger job than he originally quoted for. Would have had to go over 2 days to get the interior done too.

The weather still gets in the way of me taking many more bad photos, but here's some I was able to take within the garage.

Engine bay:

and even the lights have been machine polished to make them look so much better than before:

Just realised I copied the wrong link for the first engine piccy, sorted it now.
I was amazed at how well the engine bay came up.
