Cleaning the Engine Bay

Before we start, let me explain to all the obsessive-compulsives that in this part of Oz, bucket washing at home is illegal under water restrictions. So despite the inferiority of coin-in-the-slot hand washes, I have to use them.

Anyway, one of the settings on the car wash is called "tyre and engine wash". I've not used this as I am nervous about pumping the engine bay full of fluid.

But the other day I saw someone in a neighbouring bay open the bonnet on his Holden, then give it the full treatment - engine wash, foam brush and high pressure spray. He drove away afterwards with no apparent problems.

Does anyone else do this?

Re: Cleaning the Engine Bay

what about bath or rain water once it has been filtered? reusing water etc...can u do this? if so do it...its easy to get the products to help u clean your car but cleaning them off without the use of water will be a bit more tricky.

Re: Cleaning the Engine Bay

Most of the engine bay does not require the use of water at all. If you are happy to ignore the nether regions which in any case are hidden down in the depths behind covers you should be able to wipe down and dress all the upper (top) sections.

This has been covered in great detail in other posts quite recently.

Here is a pic of my engine bay. I do not use water at all.
