Bird Poop scratch disaster

Arghhhhhhhhh

I have idiotically managed to put a patch of very minor scratches on the bonnet of my 8 week old Brera S by trying to remove a huge dollop of bird crap.

The bird must have eaten a stomach full of sand before it crapped on my bonnet and as ive wiped it off a little too vigorously with a handy wipe ive left a patch of scratches akin to paint swirls, maybe a tiny bit worse.

What can i do to fix it? The minor scratch repair stuff you get in halfords (or does that just leave a load of swirls?) t cut? none of the above????

A fine polishing/burnishing compound for starters? You could try something like Brasso, or Halfords do a fine glass cutting compound, that's assuming the scratches are very shallow? :

I would try polishing it out with a good car wax before trying anything more abrasive.

Re: Bird Poop scratch disaster

youre going to have to polish that good, If you havent got a machine polisher try megs scratch x or carlack.

Dont use the cutting compounds from halfords as they will make it worse.

Re: Bird Poop scratch disaster

There was a huge pile of bird poop on the GT bonnet this week. Clare'd not noticed it so it had dried hard so didn't fancy using the AG Bird poop wipes so I used a 50 / 50 mix of car shampoo and water, sprayed on with a trigger spray bottle, left for 15 mins. The result was the mess just slid off with no damage whatsoever. As has been said, try a mild abrasive followed by a wax. Even SRP may do it.

Re: Bird Poop scratch disaster

If i'm parked up either at home or round the inlaws so near a supply of hot water, just get a few tissues soaked in hot water, ball it up trying not to squeeze out too much water and place it on the poop.

10 mins later, use a dry tissue to wipe off.

No scratches, no more poop.

As i live on the coast seagulls sit on the ridge tiles and cr-p on my motors . So i always have a bucket of water and a sponge and let it soak . After 10 mins it just wipes off .

The effectiveness of any type of cutting polish will depend on what paint is on your car - is it metallic?

Re: Bird Poop scratch disaster

I usually get an absorbent cloth like the type you might use for washing dishes, place it over the bird poop and pour hand hot water, i.e. quite hot but not boiling, over the cloth. Leave it to sit there for 10 mins or so and the mess just wipes off.

As for repairing the scratches, there are others who know more about this than me!

Re: Bird Poop scratch disaster

Sounds like the paper wipes where the issue,
not the birdy poopoo.

If they aren't too deep I'd even try just claying and
waxing first. Clay is very mildly abrasive and could
be all you need to flatten out the scratches.

Re: Bird Poop scratch disaster

Best way to remove bird crap is to get a kitchen towel or similar large tissue.
Soak it under the cold tap, fold it to a smaller size so that it covers the bird poop and just lay it onto the poop.
The moisture in the towel will be absorbed by the turd and it will just wipe off, trying to remove poop when it is dry is a scratchy nightmare, it needs to be wet....
