30 Mins under the bonnet....

I don't have the spare time that I would like to commit to cleaning my car as I have a young family (probably a good thing or there would be a divorce ). But I had a chance last week to clean under the bonnet of my GTA.

I bought some Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner and used that, a stiff brush and simply a garden hose with the nozzle turned down low to a fine spray. I made sure that the spray was kept away from the battery and fusebox/ecu/alternator etc.

After that I dressed the plastics with 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Firstly sorry about picture quality, I just used my mobile phone. Secondly I can't seem to show the images using the [IMG] command so you'll need to visit the links.

Before starting

After finishing, couldn't get the alloy covers any better with cleaning only, may need polishing or powder coating

And chrome intakes coated with wax (Poorboys wheel sealant).....

I'll probably just paint the fuel rails bright silver due to time constraints.

Cheers
Alan

Isn't Aerospace 303 a great product?? One of the "unsung heros" of the detailing world IMHO.

It gives a nice mat black effect without being too shiny

Re: 30 Mins under the bonnet....

I gave mine a once-over (cam-belt cover and coils still to go on.. but you get the idea).

It's a proper donkey though.. not one of those gay-and-plastic 24v ones...

That looks great Ralf. What have you done with the fuel rails, are they painted or plated?

Some beautifull looking engines there

A Good way to clean alloy engine parts (as long as there not painted) is with a scotch brite pad and some cheap penertrating oil.

I suppose it does have 6 cylinders.. I'll have to overlook that it has 12-too-many valves!

The rails are painted in a copper enamel. I dunno how durable it is.. but I wanted something similar to the OE finish.

The fella who did the rocker covers said I should have brought the fuel rails to him for some anodising... but I'd already painted them by then. Still.. at least I found someone who can plate them...
