If you'd done that *last* weekend, the "road grime" would have just bounced off!

Hope it's not toooo bad and that the body shop sorts it properly, like.

Re: looks like i'm getting my car cleaned for "free"

If it had to go on a transporter it must have been pretty bad....undrivable?

Bad luck. I hope the panels shop is a good one.

When I bought my Ti it had a few annoying scratches on the back bumper and rear LHS fender. Then as luck would have it I had a very gentle bump at a stop street when someone drove (slowly) into the back of me. Enough damage for a complete respray of the bumper but not enough to have done any major damage. Insurance paid.

Re: looks like i'm getting my car cleaned for "free"

its not too bad , but as we were being asked;

"is it driveable ?"

a banger car is driveable but is it legal ? bumper hanging off , reflectors missing , boot not shutting properly etc.. etc..

its just one of them things , can't be helped , just want to make sure it comes back mint , as this is the best 147 i could find , and has no scuffs marks , dings or dents , what so ever ! all the door jams etc,, as as mint as the ext....and a TI ! 1 private owner from new with full Alfa histroy ! so just a shame its looking sorry for its self at the minute !

Re: looks like i'm getting my car cleaned for "free"

They have written it off! If the floor pan folded then how did the plastic bumper come off as well as it did! Doesnt look too bad but something like that would wind me up and everytime I saw the car my eyes would be drawn to it and having seen some of your posts on cleaning I would have thought you would be the same. Whats the plan then?

Re: looks like i'm getting my car cleaned for "free"

Surely you could get a local friendly bodyshop to do it for a reasonable price? The insurers probably had to allow for cost of courtesy car (£30 a day for say 4 weeks and there's £840, transport (prob £150), brand new genuine AR parts that are notourisly difficult to obtain, thats what wrote if off

If the floor is damaged and the tailgate won't shut, that may indicate it needs jigging. Add to that the cost of courtesy car, transport etc then its not a cheap repair for someone like Nationwide with all their mega overheads.

I reckon a friendly small, local independent could do it for much less, especially if you get a secondhand boot floor, or a pattern part and catch the bus....

Have you considered going down the accident management route?

Re: looks like i'm getting my car cleaned for "free"

agree with all the above but its now a cat D and although i could get it repaired cheaper i don't want too ! i rather sell it as i will get a lump sum plus the car anyway all agreed on lump sum and the car is mine.

it will need the floor pan jigging or replacing so its not just the paint and bumper.

but for someone for a project its a hell of a car to start with ! just that i need the money now or after xmas to replace it !

You've got mail. I'd like to see how bad the floor pan is.

Re: looks like i'm getting my car cleaned for "free"

Hi all just an update on this , took it to an Alfa specailist today and he has taken a look and is gobsmacked at the car being Cat D , both chassis points are A ok and it is just simply the flor pan around the spare wheel that is creased , the tailgate shuts just fine and the boot release works A ok also , he said it would not take much at all to repair as all shut lines are perfect and even the bumper can be repaired as oppossed to being replaced the bumper still fits inline with the wheel arches.

he sells Alfa's them and siad it's the best 147 TI he has ever seen ! and could not belive how clean it was even the door jambs etc... and that if it were him he would just repair the floor pan and repair the bumper and it would be a fantastic car

some pics to prove my comments if interested please call me on 07971490046.

Its a no brainer - Get him to do it.... Just out of interest, did you have the spare wheel in the boot at the time?
