Someone has keyed entire side of car!

I was wondering if anyone can guide me to the easiest way of removing a scratch.

I would say that the scratch has gone through the laquer but no deeper for the entire scratch! I can put my finger nail in the gap for the entire length!

Should i just fill the scratch with laquer and polish back?

Please help or im going to have a sleepless night!!

Thanks

Christian

Sorry to hear that Christian

Apart from trying to find the person who did it and kill them, I think you have 2 options depending on severity:

1- T-cut and polish. It will prob leave a trace of the scratch
2- respray!!

Are n't there some jealous T***s about. Same thing happened to me, many Years ago when I bought my first 145. I had to have a complete bonnet re-spray to get it right........

Re: Someone has keyed entire side of car!

The generally accepted rule is that if the scratch is deep enough to catch your finger nail then you will not be able to compound/buff it out. You might be able to hide it somewhat by taking the "edges" off which stops them reflecting light thus making them less visible.

A lot of polishes, for example AG SRP contain fillers which will mask the scratch making it less noticible but thats about as best you can do.

Thats terrible news
I'd call your insurance and get it proffesionally repaired, otherwise you'll see it everytime you look at the car.

Do the fillers wash off or are they permanent?

Thanks for the support everyone

Sad but unfortunately It seems to get worse! More and more, of it happening. That's one reason I prefer solid white, or solid black. Easier for me to DIY repaint?:

Re: Someone has keyed entire side of car!

The fillers in polishes will eventually "wash/wear out". All they really do is mask the scratch. But a good wax on top of the polish will help to delay the inevitable.

Re: Someone has keyed entire side of car!

You may not need a bodyshop job if especially if the scratch hasn't gone through the clearcoat. If it's just the the clearcoat by a clear touchup stick, touch in the scratch to just proud of the surface, rub down using 2000 grit and sanding block, buff with rubbing compound, colour restorer then Autoglym Super Resin. For best buffing results you'll need an electric polisher. If the scratch has damaged the colour coat then use a little colour first. I suspect Metallic paint will be more difficult than solid and dark colours are better. I've done this on Alfa Red and you couldn't see the scratch unless you looked closely.

I gave this ago and ended up looked pretty shabby

So the Car is going to be resprayed in standard moonblue on the 4th/5th of December .

Well the only thing not getting resprayed is the passenger side of the car! Unless of course it doesnt blend in properly then i might need to get that done as well!

Re: Someone has keyed entire side of car!

A "friend" of mine had his TR6 keyed on the bonnet and all along one side and knew that the paint would never be matched unless the whole car was resprayed. Luckily that night the other side got keyed and so the car had a full respray................

I've heard of people wiring their cars to high voltage power supplies. Although obviously I could not condone this

Re: Someone has keyed entire side of car!

The b*ggers I think that sometimes it's jealousy, sometimes sheer vandalism. I've had the Alfa keyed (which I put down to jealousy), but also a £400 shed of an L reg Astra Merit ?????? (which was white, and I hated, so I touched it up with Tipex!)

Sorry to hear about your car

Is your car parked on the street, or in a driveway?
