To wet sand or not to wet sand

Just ordered some paint from paints4u to touch up some stone chips on my nuvolo blue GTV. I read that I'm supposed to add the paint to the chips, let them dry then wet sand and polish. The wet sanding is to remove the inevitible lumps of paint from where I've applied it. Is wet sanding a suitable method with this paint colour or should I not even try. Anyone ever tried touching up nuvolo blue?

Re: To wet sand or not to wet sand

Considering it's an Irridescent colour I'd be terrified to touch it mate

I think it's something like 10 base coats and 4 Lacquer coats to get the colour match right

My Advice is live with the stone chips it's likely to look bloody awful trying a DIY job on that colour mate.

BTW very unsual colour for a GTV

Why not pop along to a NW meet check out our event lounge

Thanks. I keep meaning to get to one of the meets. I'll put some more effort in! As far as the paint chips I'll give it some further thought.

Re: To wet sand or not to wet sand

Hi there,
I have a Nuvola Blue Alfa 166 with 188K miles so plenty of stone chips.
I also bought touch up paint from paints4u and have been pleasantly surprised at how good it is in dealing with chips and scratches. Dries here very quickly so have been building up layers slowly. Next job will be to wet sand carefully as well. Nothing will beat a respray of course but not bad results especially from a distance and many people admire the cars paintwork.

Rob.

Thanks Rob. I'm planning on doing the same, building up layers then very carefully wet sanding ONLY the new paint so as not to scratch the original stuff. I'm gaining confidence. All I need now is some good weather....
